It's been a week now, and Rematch, developer Sloclap's newly launched football action video game, has already turned heads on and off the field. It has notched impressive player and sales milestones alongside creating quite the impression among sports games on Twitch.
The online multiplayer football title has accrued just over 2.96 million Hours Watched (HW) since its release on June 19. This puts it atop the table of most-watched sports games on Twitch over the last week, bettering established names like EA Sports FC 25, EA Sports Madden NFL 25, and Rocket League.
Rematch is also in the number four spot for most popular sports games between June 19 and 25, with a little over 98,000 Peak Viewers (PV). This leaderboard is topped by the racing simulation title F1 25, which owes its high viewership numbers over the past week to an influencer-led event among German content creators.
The football game fares well even in the overall Twitch game's standings. It is among the 20 most popular games overall on the Amazon-owned livestreaming service over the past week, with only one new release above it.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, with all the hype and expectations behind it from the success of the first game, launched earlier on June 26 and is already in the top ten games for watch time and peak concurrent viewership.
As mentioned earlier, Rematch has done well in other facets as well, having surpassed a million sales within seven days of its release. Sloclap also announced on June 24 that the title had reached three million "unique" players within five days of its launch, thanks to its availability on Xbox's Game Pass subscription service.
Over a week after its run, Rematch has a peak of 92,841 players on Steam, who have collectively put in 14,560 positive reviews to give it a "Mostly Positive" score. The game was also among the digital distribution service's ten best-selling games at the time of writing.
What has helped Rematch do so well is the pure presentation of the game and the way players can go about playing it. They can choose to compete in fast-paced 5v5, 4v4, or 3v3 matches from an immersive third-person perspective, with conventional rules thrown out the back door.
These sentiments were backed by some of the top football content creators in the world, including Elias "eliasn97" Nerlich, Victor "loud_coringa" Augusto, and Morgan "angryginge13" Burtwistle. These star online personalities ended up among Rematch's most-watched streamers between June 19 and 25, giving it even more credibility among fans, viewers, and players.
Many of these streamers have also labeled Rematch as the "FC killer," and while that idea might be pretty premature to many, it has still been enjoyable to most players. Rules like rolling subs, player positions changing with each goal, and the need to press buttons to execute certain moves like sprinting, jumping, and shooting have played their part.
True to football's global roots, Rematch's language stats paint a diverse picture, with entries from South America, North America, Europe, and Asia populating its most-watched languages list. Interestingly, German broadcasts have attracted the highest concurrent viewership numbers as influencers like eliasn97, Daniel "Dhalucard" Hagen, Luca "Repaz", and Rohat "xRohat" Celik have given it a lot of airtime.
Overall, Rematch has been a breath of fresh air for many players, including non-football fans, after years of sanitized simulation titles like EA FC and PES (eFootball). While it still has a long way to go to call itself a true success among video game releases in 2025, it is certainly on the right track.
