The Rubius MadCup, a Fortnite tournament that pits non-esports influencers against each other for a prize of €50,000, was held on March 18. It has turned out to be one of the best competitions in the popular building game’s calendar, as seen from the stats presented by Esports Charts.
The Rubius MadCup did 327K Peak Viewers and 257K Average Viewers over an Airtime of around four and a half hours. What contributed to its immense success, apart from the fact that Rubius is one of the most prominent Spanish streamers today, was that many famous influencers who are either casual Fortnite players or have never played it were the participants, adding a dynamic that was fun and rarely seen at events of this scale.
In terms of the most popular streamers for audiences, TheGrefg came out on top after notching 73K PV, followed by the host with 65K PV, and famous Mexican content creator ElMariana, who hit 45K PV. They are three of the most highly sought-after Spanish-speaking creators who have done a lot for Fortnite in this market, serving as leaders within the community.
The trio also formed the top three in the most-watched channels list across the competition, with Rubius hitting 184K HW, TheGrefg 165k HW, and ElMariana 155K HW. Given every streamer who participated in this tournament — including other big Spanish broadcasting names — streamed it, for these three to come out on top on both metrics was quite the achievement and a testament to their enduring connection to audiences and the quality of their streams.
Such large numbers for the Rubius MadCup were a joint effort by the participants, as it was broadcasted by over 60 Twitch & YouTube Live channels, with 30+ channels putting up over 1K AV. Among the bigger names to be streaming the tournament included Rivers_gg, Robleis, and Nexxuz World, so these online stars came together to create a Fortnite competition that was highly successful.
More importantly, the competition became the most-watched Fortnite event of 2023 (so far) in all metrics. As seen above, it also did 1.18 million HW, more than double the next-best name on the list. This is despite the tournament having the second-least run time of the top five entries on this leaderboard.
Again, this points to the popularity of Rubius and Fortnite in the Spanish and Latin American markets. The host ensured the competition was diverse as well, as it contained Solo, Duos, and Squads modes, apart from two other formats, adding to its diversity and quality.
