The #CODNext showcases allow Activision to connect with fans of the Call of Duty franchise and tease their upcoming releases. The game publisher recently held a lengthy and thorough presentation for the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which was watched by over 836,100 fans concurrently across both Twitch and YouTube.

The showcase spanned well over four hours and released far too many details to cover in-depth here. In summary, Black Ops 6 is bringing new movement and gameplay changes to the franchise, for a more dynamic experience, as well as many updates to the beloved zombies game mode, which has been a major selling point for the franchise for years. Fans can expect new fluid movement dynamics, a streamlined gun customisation system, and a revitalised zombies game mode.

#CODNext Black Ops 6 Viewership Statistics

The showcase was broadcast across both Twitch and YouTube Live by both official channels and community members co-broadcasting the event. In total, the showcase generated more than 2.8M Hours Watched and maintained an average viewership of 637.5K concurrent viewers.

The event’s peak viewership of 836.1K PV was reached early on in the event, during the multiplayer show match. The showcase brought multiple content creators and streamers in to play some multiplayer of the unreleased title and show off the new changes and movement. Involved creators with the live event at Washington, D.C. include TimTheTatman, Emzy, Hutch, Methodz, DrLupo, and the list goes on.

While viewership for the lengthy presentation peaked early on, it still maintained a strong viewership of hundreds of thousands of live viewers throughout. The event was heavily supported by community casters co-broadcasting the event, many of whom were at the live event in-person. Streams Charts has collated the most popular streamers to cover the event live, by their peak concurrent viewers for the stream.

#CODNext Black Ops 6 Most Popular Channels by Peak Concurrent Viewership

The official Call of Duty Twitch and YouTube accounts were the most popular streams for the event, but the Twitch channel earned slightly more viewers at peak with 118.2K PV. These two channels were the only official broadcasts for the event, meaning viewership was particularly concentrated for these official channels of the gaming franchise.

TimTheTatman earned 44.1K Peak Viewers for his live coverage of the event in-person. The American streamer was by far the most popular community streamer to cover the showcase, earning almost double the Peak Viewers of the next-most popular streamer. Not only was his stream successful in comparison to others, but his broadcast for #CODNext was his third-most popular stream of 2024

Aside from Tim, Scump and Agent00 received similar viewership. Scump is an ex-professional Call of Duty player and world champion for the esports title. The North American player-turned-streamer is one of the franchise’s most recognised and respected streamers, and he earned 23.6K PV for his coverage of the event. He has successfully created his own streaming brand, with over 1.73M Followers on Twitch, and is often one of the most popular channels for Call of Duty events. Agent00 is a wildly successful YouTuber and streamer who originally started out on YouTube as a Call of Duty montage editor. Coming back to his roots, his Twitch-based coverage of the event received 21.4K PV.

North American creators were the most popular ones to cover the event, but the coverage for this #CODNext was also highly international. In terms of watch time, English generated a majority of the viewership for the showcase, but other European languages such as Portuguese, Spanish, French, and German, also brought tens of thousands of viewers each.

Although the recent COD Next event was highly watched, it was not the most popular showcase for the franchise in the livestreaming year. Two years ago, a #CODNext showcase was held for the Modern Warfare II remake, which received 372.8K Peak Viewers on the Call of Duty YouTube channel alone. The recent Black Ops 6 presentation has become the second-most-popular #CODNext event hosted on the official YouTube Channel, and also the account’s third-most-popular broadcast ever.

Black Ops 6 will officially release on October 25 of this year, and it will likely be one of the most popular game releases of 2024. The game is also offering a beta launch for fans who have pre-ordered the title, with a beta weekend planned for August 30 to September 4. This has been advertised as “weekend one”, which means there will likely be future beta weekends for fans to try out the title in advance.
