PlaqueBoyMax livestreaming journey: How a streamer-producer is leading the music and livestreaming scenes

PlaqueBoyMax livestreaming journey: How a streamer-producer is leading the music and livestreaming scenes
Share:

Maxwell “PlaqueBoyMax” Dent is a multi-talented creator — part streamer, part producer, part rapper — whose meteoric rise over the past few years has landed him not only a huge online following, but also serious industry recognition. With his innovative Twitch formats, live-studio sessions and a Grammy nomination under his belt, he's redefining what it means to be a modern streamer. But who exactly is PlaqueBoyMax, and how did he get here?

Who Is PlaqueBoyMax?

PlaqueBoyMax, born in New Jersey in 2003, first started creating content in school, uploading videos of him and his friends playing basketball. He later formed a YouTube group called the Basement Boyz, where he and his friends made videos together, creating videos with strangers on the street, freestyling together and more. In 2021, Max would launch his own Twitch channel, starting the beginning of his livestreaming journey.

Max first convinced his parents to let him pursue streaming while taking a gap year before college — with a slide presentation, no less, before building his reputation as a streamer uniquely blending music and content. His first years in livestreaming saw him mainly operate under the Just Chatting category, where some of his particularly most popular content involved his Song Wars series, where viewers would send songs to the tournament to be judged and ranked. This style of event has become quite popular across music streamers, with many examples popping up in recent years.

Aside from this series, his other content included classic Just Chatting activities for streamers: reading with their chat, reacting to content, or interacting with their community more directly. During this period, he quickly built up a fan base for his humor, music, and entertaining nature. His name takes inspiration from his goal of a YouTube plaque, which he has long since achieved with over 1.6M YouTube subscribers.

Joining the iconic FaZe Clan

After a few years of building his brand in livestreaming and across other social media, Max joined FaZe Clan in 2024, as a part of the company’s restructuring. Part of a new wave of FaZe creators, the American streamer quickly gained momentum, accumulating hundreds of thousands of subscribers in mere months, quickly reaching 1,000,000 followers on Twitch.

PlaqueBoyMax launched himself into the mainstream livestreaming scene with FaZe Clan

After joining FaZe, Max started a new series to create music, collaboratively, on stream. Called the ‘In the Booth’ series, Max invites other artists to make music in his studio, with the whole process livestreamed to fans for immediate feedback and reactions. PlaqueBoyMax is able to fulfill both a producer and artist role, often stepping into the role best suited for the collaborating artists.

These live-music moments generate unique excitement as blink-and-you-miss-it sessions, which have a special appeal when followed live. The format gives viewers a front-row seat to the creative process, bridging the gap between streaming entertainment and authentic, serious music production.

Several highlight moments stand out during Max’s FaZe stint. The creator was part of the organization’s subathon event, in which he and other FaZe members broadcast 24/7 from their content house. Personally for Max, in one of his most-watched In The Booth sessions, British rapper Central Cee joined him. The broadcast was a whopping success, reaching over 140K Peak Viewers — a striking number for a live music-production format. Another particular buzz featured Will Smith appearing on stream with Max, a modern collaboration between two major entertainment industries.

In early August 2025, Max would shock fans and the industry by abruptly announcing his departure from FaZe Clan. During his time with the organization, he gained well over 1,000,000 Twitch followers, set a personal peak viewership record of just under 200,000 viewers, and furthered his brand through the industry.

What is PlaqueBoyMax doing after leaving FaZe?

PlaqueBoyMax’s growth hasn’t been just organic, he’s gained concrete recognition. At the upcoming The Streamer Awards 2025, he was nominated in four different categories: Best Music Streamer, Best Streamed Collab (with Fred Again), Best Streamed Series (In The Booth), and Best Streamer of the Year. His widespread recognition among his fellow streamers and fans is a testament to the cultural power the creator now holds.

But, perhaps his biggest milestone came in November 205, when he was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Becoming the first-ever Twitch streamer to be nominated for a Grammy — rather than a Grammy-nominated artist starting to stream — he was nominated in the Best Dance/Electronic Recording category for his song Victory Lap, with Fred Again and Skepta.

Given his trajectory, PlaqueBoyMax seems poised to expand his influence both as a musician and a streaming innovator. With his own brand 5$TAR and the success of his In The Booth format, he might extend into more large-scale collabs, possibly even launching his own label. As he continues producing and releasing his own music, and potentially working with bigger names, his dual role as a streamer-producer could become a blueprint for future creators.
