Last week was full of news in the streaming industry. In the new digest, Streams Charts talks about the most interesting of them — from the release of Twitch on the Nintendo Switch and removing the dislike counter on YouTube to the partnership agreement between Twitch Rivals and the cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com.

1. YouTube will stop showing the number of dislikes under the videos

The dislike counter will no longer appear under YouTube videos. Users of the service will continue to be able to “dislike” videos, but only the authors of the videos will see the number of dislikes.

The representatives of YouTube explained that this was their way of “protecting” the content creators from the negativity of viewers. In the future, the developers of the platform will take additional measures in this direction.

In the spring of 2021, YouTube for the first time conducted an experiment to disable the dislike counter for some users. The management of the service concluded that with the counter being hidden, the number of dislikes decreases.

2. Twitch is now available on Nintendo Switch

On November 11, the Twitch app was released on the Nintendo Switch console. The app has a size of 31 MB and currently supports 11 languages, including Russian.

The functionality of the app is quite limited, but users can access all basic functions. They can browse and view separate categories of broadcasts as well as subscribe to streamers. So far, Nintendo Switch does not offer the possibility to broadcast on your own.

3. Crypto exchange Crypto.com has become a partner of Twitch Rivals

Crypto.com cryptocurrency platform and the organizers of Twitch Rivals esports tournament have announced a partnership. The organizers of Twitch Rivals have already hosted the first joint event with Crypto.com — the two-day Ultimate Challenge, which took place on November 4-5. Many famous streamers took part in the competition, including xQc, Sodapoppin, HasanAbi and Myth.

This is not the first esports venture of Crypto.com. Earlier, the cryptocurrency trading platform entered into a $15M worth partnership agreement with the Fnatic organization.

4. Twitch launches a program to support musicians

Twitch announced The Collective program, which aims to support musicians who use the platform. Its members will be divided into several groups, while mentors and service staff will instruct them on growth on the platform and monetization of the created content.

Twitch is the best place for musicians, not only in giving them a stage for creativity — but also in building engaging communities of superfans that takes them to new heights. We’ve seen our artistic music creators monetize their work and grow a strong presence, and it’s been exciting to see the rapid expansion of our music category. For Twitch newcomers, The Collective ensures that artists have the proper knowledge and tools to be successful on Twitch in doing what they do — touching the lives of others through music” — Tracy Chan, VP, Head of Music at Twitch

Musicians who complete the program will be given exclusive promotion opportunities on Twitch. They will also be supported by Discord, Rolling Stone, Amazon Music, and other partners of the service.

5. XQc suggested an idea for improving Twitch, which was liked by an employee of the platform

The streamer xQc co-streamed with Twitch employee Pluto. During the conversation, the content creator voiced an idea to improve the service by introducing a clip system, which the interlocutor liked.

I don’t have time to watch all the streams. But I do have a little bit of time and I want a highlight reel of all the streamers I’m interested in or another section about what happened today on Twitch” — xQc

XQc also criticized Twitch's recommendation system. While Pluto praised the proposal of xQc, he said that Twitch's recommendation system is doing its job well.
