Streams Charts team found out which car brands are most often mentioned on Twitch. To do this, we analyzed the names of the broadcasts, as well as the talks of users in chats. For our research, we took a number of popular car brands and looked at how often they were mentioned in statuses (stream titles). For each brand, the total number of Hours Watched where it was mentioned was calculated.
The most popular car brand on Twitch in June 2022 was Nissan. Streams with the brand mentions in titles have generated over 660K Hours Watched. In just a month, 307 broadcasts were made on 145 channels. The number of unique viewers on all broadcasts with a mention of the brand amounted to almost 246K people, and the number of Peak Viewers reached 66K.
Nissan is in the lead because the car brand was a sponsor of the Rocket League tournament and was mentioned in the statuses of all official broadcasts. At the same time, Nissan took only the seventh spot in the top 10 by the number of broadcasts.
The second place by Hours Watched was taken by the KIA brand (139.8K). It was mentioned in 323 broadcasts on 104 channels. In many ways, the brand owns its Twitch popularity to being the title sponsor of the Korean esports team DWG KIA, hence it was mentioned in all matches with its participation.
The top 5 brands by Hours Watched also included BMW (131.9K), Porsche (122.6K), and Hyundai (57.7K). It is noteworthy that Porsche became the leader in terms of the number of broadcasts (1.4K) and channels (693), and also took the second spot (behind Nissan) by number of unique viewers (103K).
Analysis of the chat logs showed that viewers most often mentioned the Ferrari brand in chats among all car brands (68.8K messages). The second place is occupied by the Tesla brand (64.4K). Interestingly, Tesla took only the seventh spot by Hours Watched and the fifth spot in terms of the number of statuses, but the brand was much more often discussed by viewers in chats. The top 5 also includes BMW, Mercedes, and Honda.
It should be mentioned that the word Mercedes does not always refer to a car. In Spain, this is also a popular female name — hence, the calculations may not be entirely accurate. To reduce the error that comes from other names, we analyzed the context of the messages and excluded from the calculation those where it was not about the car brand. For example, if a user wrote the name of the actor "Harrison Ford" in the chat, then his post was not taken into account in the statistics for the Ford brand. The situation is similar to the phrase "Kia ora", which in the Maori language means "Hello".
