Twitch Rivals MARVEL SNAP Duos Showdown boosts community viewership and sets record for a $20K event

Twitch Rivals MARVEL SNAP Duos Showdown boosts community viewership and sets record for a $20K event

Twitch Rivals hosted their second ever Marvel Snap event and viewership is rising. Marvel Snap is a collectable digital card game published for mobile and PC gaming and was released mid-last year. Twitch Rivals hosted their second Marvel Snap event earlier this week and it was a huge success. Comparing the viewership to the previous event for the title, audience activity is growing, but how does it compare to other Twitch Rivals events?

Twitch Rivals Marvel Snap Duos Showdown viewership

Twitch Rivals Marvel Snap Duos Showdown overall viewership statisticsComparing the recent Twitch Rivals event to the previous iteration featuring Marvel Snap, it’s clear the second event in their series has been hugely successful. One partial reason for this increase in viewership is an increase in the size of the event.

The initial Marvel Snap Battle event featured 12 participants and a $10K USD prize pool. The recent Duos Showdown event upped this to 32 participants and a $20K USD prize pool, which was used to host consolidation brackets for those knocked out of the main event. There were three consolidation brackets featuring $5.5K-2.5K in prize pools, with the Championship Bracket having $8.1K USD up for grabs.

A smart decision in terms of event organisation, the many brackets and prize pools allow streamers to continue to generate viewership for the event throughout, even if they are knocked out of the Championship Bracket. With this in mind, the event garnered 354.7K hours of watch time and the viewership dynamics show stable viewership throughout the event.

Overall, with all streamers accounted for, the event reached 65K concurrent viewers at peak and with all streamers combined the event averaged 56K concurrent viewers. Viewership for the event overall was high, but let's look at how the individual streamers performed for the event.

Twitch Rivals Marvel Snap Duos Showdown streamers statisticsThroughout the event, each streamer received 1.8K viewers on average. However, the averages for these statistics are quite top-heavy. Only eight streamers of the 33 broadcasts covering the event received more-than-average concurrent viewers, and the bottom two performers received under 100 AV.

Dekkster was the most popular streamer of the event, reaching 19.5K Peak Viewers. Although dekkster was able to claim the title of most popular streamer for the event, he received fewer Average Viewers compared to Italian streamer attrix. Attrix was not able to match dekkster’s peak concurrent viewership, but he did average more than 500 concurrent viewers more than dekkster throughout the event.

The official Twitch Rivals coverage of the event failed to rank within the top broadcasts for the event. Twitchrivals accumulated just less than 30K hours of watch time and reached a peak concurrent viewership of 5.6K. Despite this, the official stream brought in many more views than AlexanderCoccia. Twitch Rivals main channel earned 118.3K views on their official broadcast, ranking third per views out of all streamers for the event. Only dekkster and attrix were more successful in this metric, the latter of the two ranking on the top with 180.4K views.

Italian and English-speaking streamers dominated the top of the events’ rankings, but the German community also had a couple of streamers representing the community; Sologesang was the main contributor to the language’s presence. Interestingly, Sologesang was one of the larger streamers at the event but received low viewership, only reaching a peak of 2.6K concurrent viewers.

In terms of Twitch followers, Sologesang dwarfs dekkster and AlexanderCoccia and is very similar in size to attrix. Sologesang’s low viewership for the event is likely due to the fact that he is a dedicated Teamfight Tactics streamer. Teamfight Factics makes up the large majority of his streams and his broadcasts of other games receive less than half the viewership of his regular content.

Despite Sologesang’s lower-than-normal viewership, other streamers at the event saw new records reached during the tournament. Attrix’s stream for the event set personal records in both Hours Watched and Peak Viewers and AlexanderCoccia smashed his previous record of 1.2K Peak Viewers when dekkster raided his stream and Alexander reached a new record of 18.7K Peak Viewers. This occurred just before the official Twitch Rivals event started, so he recorded a peak concurrent viewership of 12.7K just as the event started.

Comparison to other Twitch Rivals events for 2023

For the comparison to other Twitch Rivals events, we’ve specifically picked Twitch Rivals events which were held in 2023 with a $20K USD prize pool for a fair analysis. The second Marvel Snap event for the series was one of the most popular events of the year, once the prize pool is taken into account. Overall, the event ranks 9th per watch time of all 2023 Twitch Rivals events, but it falls behind events with higher prize pools and more prestigious streaming celebrities.

Marvel Snap dominated watch time, with 150K+ more Hours Watched compared to the second-best-performing event, Chess Hand & Brain. In terms of Peak Viewers, Rocket League and Falls Guys were more successful, but only at peak. The Rocket League event saw a huge spike in viewership as xQc streamed the last hour or so of the event and brought 52.5K average concurrent viewers with him and the Fall Guys event suffered from low viewership at the beginning and end of the event.

Although Marvel Snap was not the most popular event per peak concurrent viewers, it did reign supreme in terms of average concurrent viewers throughout the whole event. Rocket League and Fall Guys depended on the names of huge streaming personalities to bring in viewership, like ZeratoR or xQc, but the recent Marvel Snap event highlights the symbiotic nature of Twitch Rivals. Smaller community streamers are allowed a chance in the limelight and to showcase their ability, which also in turn boosts the viewership of the Twitch Rivals account and helps to develop a healthy ecosystem for streamers to work in.

Ultimately, the recent Marvel Snap Duos Showdown Twitch Rivals event was one of the most successful events of late for Twitch Rivals, considering the low monetary cost of hosting it. Although it was not able to compete with the likes of the $200K Squid Craft Games 2 event, which drew in 22.6M Hours Watched, it was successful compared to its size and highlighted community streams on Twitch, helping these streamers to boost their own viewership through the event.
