Chat dynamics in streaming platforms like Twitch can help gauge how well content creators are doing in engaging with their audiences and keeping up with the newest trends. It also measures how viewers react to a broadcast, streamer, or both and how involved they are with the content they see.
Streams Charts looks at the broadcasters with the most active chats every month, and with the new month upon us, here’s the list for March.
Ten best Twitch streamers by audience engagement in March 2023
The audience engagement ratio is the percentage of active chatters to the total number of Unique Viewers of the channel. The more often viewers write in a chat during the broadcast, the higher this ratio is.
To compile the ranking, we have put certain restrictions: we analyzed only those channels that had more than 100K followers, more than 5K Average Viewers on broadcasts, and more than 100K messages in the chat in January.
It is Vinesauce that had the highest audience engagement rate in March, with this collective of online content creators — founded in 2010 — notching a healthy engagement rate of 35.82%. Original creator Vinny currently runs the channel, and having played a lot of the remake of the classic Resident Evil 4 game, the American got lots of viewers involved in his streams.
Next comes drb7h, whose channel got 23K active chatters and 71K Authentic Viewers for an engagement rate of 33.11%. Someone who heavily played Grand Theft Auto V last month, the Saudi Arabian streamer would have had lots of fans of the game in his chat, as they are known to be vocal and, at times, opinionated.
In the third position is PaymoneyWubby, a regular on this list as he has made the top ten for all three months this year, with his latest engagement rate being 31.58%. Once again, it was the American’s entertaining way of watching funny videos that succeeded in engaging his viewers and getting them to regularly contribute heavily in the chat.
Coming in fourth is mlodziutki7, who had an engagement rate of 30.99%, which helped him climb two places from February and enter the top five. The Polish content creator mostly engaged in Just Chatting and Minecraft, and with the Minecraft Championship 29 happening in the middle of the month, viewers would have had a lot to say about the event and its results.
CapitanGatoo rounded off the top five as a new entrant on this list, having recorded a 30.78% engagement rate. The Peruvian broadcaster, too, was very active in the Minecraft and Just Chatting genres, while he also played a bit of the game of the COVID-19 lockdown era, Among Us, alongside other niche titles like Roblox and Gang Beasts.
The remainder of the top ten had streamers from countries like Brazil, Turkey, Argentina, and the UK. These names had engagement rates between 30% and 27%, and their genres ranged from League of Legends to Dead by Daylight to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Once again, EAMaddenNFL, the official English-language channel for Madden NFL 23 tournaments, did the highest overall engagement rate at 49.90%. However, since this article looks at streamers and not organizations, it was not included in the list.
Ten best Twitch streamers by active chatters in March 2023
This list has a familiar look to it, especially when seeing the corresponding leaderboard from February. After seeing two women in the top ten last month, this time, it was back to the sole representative — rivers_gg — a name who has been making waves for some time and is considered a bonafide platform superstar.
There's also a heavy Spanish flavor, pointing to the popularity of these streamers in their regions and the success that Twitch has witnessed in this market for the last few years, with things only looking on the up. auronplay, TheGrefg, and Rubius were part of the top ten this time, having together missed February’s standings despite being big names in their own rights.
Another country to have equal popularity was Mexico, which had three representatives as well, with the abovementioned rivers joined by Roier and ElMariana. This is another region that has a strong foundation when it comes to users on Twitch, and the success of the above internet personalities proves how much love and support their countrymen have for their content, which, more often than not, is top-notch.
Having finished second last month, ElSpreen was the happy topper this time around, as he was another to take advantage of Minecraft’s popularity and the MCC 29 to the summit in March. The Argentinean had 283K active chatters and 4.86M Hours Watched, the fourth-highest in this list.
The perenially popular xQc is one of two North American representatives, having notched the highest watch hours (12M), a metric he rules almost every time, and a decent 225K active chatters, which put him fourth here. The Canadian continues to push the envelope of the kind of content that gets online stars over with audiences, and despite a controversial history, he is one of the pillars of Twitch's continued success as well.
Colombian superstar juansguarnizo is fifth with 208K active chatters, having only recently become one of the handful of Twitch names to get over 10M followers. He is popular for his sports-related streams, which is what has gotten him so much fame on the platform, and it will be a surprise if he decides to deviate from this winning formula anytime soon.
Kai Cenat, last month’s leader and the newest bonafide Twitch superstar after breaking the active subs record thanks to his recent subathon, rounds off this list after achieving 186K active chatters in March. Understandably, having gone on such a record-breaking run, the American has not been as active as in the first two months of 2023, but there is no doubt he will be back with a bang and could very well climb up this list again in April.
