Of course, Streams Charts does not only track the viewership statistics of streamers. Our data service can follow the subscriptions to channels, viewership performance of games, segment reports, and reports based on Twitch chat analytics. To showcase how we can track, analyse, and collate data, we combed through the Twitch chats of 2024 so far to bring you the most-mentioned car brands on the purple live-streaming platform.
Ferrari was the most-mentioned brand with over 200K mentions across global Twitch chats. The prancing horse was present in 20.7K individual chats and was considerably more popular than other brands. Tesla came in close second with 188.5K mentions, but there is an advantage Ferrari has over Tesla. Tesla is largely an automotive company, whereas Ferrari also competes in various motorsports around the world. Ferrari’s motorsport teams help drive the brand awareness of the company in various aspects of our culture, including Twitch Chat.
BMW was the final podium-placing brand, with 165K mentions. Interestingly, European brands are on average the most popular. Ferrari, BMW, Audi, and Porsche all represented Europe; and excluding Ferrari all of these brands are German. Japanese brands were also widely popular, with Honda receiving 113K mentions, Toyota receiving 70K, and Nissan with 48K.
Breaking up the data as language-specific charts, Tesla and Ford reigned supreme within English-speaking Twitch chats at 95K mentions and 77K mentions, respectively. Although German brand Porsche was the most popular with German-speaking Twitch chatters, Tesla outperformed Audi within German-speaking chats by over 3K mentions.
Curiously, Audi was more often mentioned by Spanish-speaking chatters. This may tie in directly to motorsports culture, specifically Formula 1. Carlos Sainz Jr. is a Spanish driver with Ferrari, and most recently won the 2024 Australian Grand Prix only 16 days after undergoing an appendix surgery: his win with Ferrari likely influenced the brand’s popularity among Spanish-speaking chats.
After winning the race, Sainz Jr. described himself as “jobless”, as he does not have a contract signed to race in F1 next year. However, rumours have been circulating for years that Sainz Jr. will join Audi when they enter the sport in 2026 by taking over the Sauber team. The announcement that Sainz Jr. will not race for Ferrari next year has only strengthened these rumours.
German brand Porsche may also have received a boost within German-speaking Twitch Chats when it was recently announced that four-time F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel would join the Porsche WEC team for a test drive, and rumours are circulating he may join the WEC circuit for a race or two, only 2 years after retiring from Formula 1. We can take a closer look at these trends by analysing the dynamics of the chat mentions.
Vettel’s announced test drive for Porsche did see an uptick of 1.5K mentions in a day, but it was not the peak day for the start of 2024. On March 8, Porsche was mentioned 2.1K times in chat, thanks to the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Working around the Formula 1 schedule, the Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East took place on the same day, driving mentions to a peak.
Ferrari’s peak of 18.9K mentions was the most mentions any team received in a single day, thanks to the announcement that 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton would drive for Ferrari beginning in 2025. Hamilton’s entire career has been in some ways partnered with Mercedes. He spent 6 years driving for the McLaren team, which was powered by a Mercedes engine and then joined the Mercedes team in 2013. Echoing the footsteps of Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso, and many more, racing drivers just cannot resist the romantic Ferrari red.
Despite being an automotive manufacturing company, Tesla’s peak was not a result of a new car or any news at all regarding their vehicles. Tesla made the news after cancelling a last-minute order for 4,000 pies from a California bakery. The business owners were cost thousands of dollars by Tesla’s cancellation, and the shop’s owner took to Instagram to air her grievances on February 21. The story picked up quite a bit of traction, and Tesla was mentioned 4.2K times in Twitch chats the following day.
Formula 1 driver news, a redemption win after a mid-season surgery, and pies. All of these stories lead to peak Twitch chat activity for car brands, and Stream Charts can help you unlock how and why live-streaming platforms interact with brands. Our reports page offers far more for those wanting to analyse the live-streaming market.
