When streamers come together and create joint content, it always attracts a lot of viewers. Due to the pandemic, 2020 provided a great opportunity for collaborations between streamers, and even more so for large-scale competitions. But who managed to attract the most attention from the community?
In this article, Streams Charts will tell you which tournaments from streamers became the most popular in 2020 in terms of hours watched and peak viewers.
Who leads in Hours Watched?
Three tournaments in our top category are related to mobile esports, namely to Free Fire. Two of them were held by Nobru, a popular streamer from Latin America and the founder of the esports team Fluxo.
The first tournament ended in August and reached 6.5M hours watched in 36 hours on the air. At that time, YouTube was the most popular platform, but Twitch was only 5% behind. The Copa Nobru tournament became one of the most popular Free Fire events in 2020.

Copa Nobru Season 2 took second place in our HW ranking with 4.9M. However, PV of the second tournament of the series dropped 23% compared to the first one, although the second season was streamed for 10 hours longer.
The third most popular event from content makers is Z LAN 2020. This is an annual marathon from the French ZeratoR and DACH. They and dozens of other popular streamers of the country played for a couple of days together. In 29 hours of broadcast, 3.9M HW were reached. The tournament does not belong to a specific game category, as the playing field for battles was constantly changing: streamers played Fall Guys, League of Legends as well as other games.
The fourth place went to the Copa Donato Season 1 from The Donato streamer. The Free Fire tournament was held for 18 teams. Six participants of the final stage automatically went to La Copa Season 1. The tournament was streamed on Facebook and YouTube and brought 2.4M hours watched in 28 hours.
Ibainéfico 2020 is the last one in our HW top. This is the charity tournament of Ibai Llanos, one of Spain's most popular streamers and a phenomenon of 2020. The event brought together many streamers who raised money for the UNICEF charitable foundation. More than 50 streamers participated in the marathon, including TheGrefg and Auronplay. They were joined by celebrities such as Argentine footballer Sergio Aguero and Spanish journalist Josep Pedrerol.
Content makers tried out Fortnite, Fall Guys, League of Legends, and other popular titles. In 3 days, the streamers managed to collect 205K dollars, and hours watched of the broadcasts hit 2M.
It is worth noting how strong is the lead of mobile esports, namely Free Fire. Three of our top tournaments relate to this game, and the other two are a combination of streamers and different games. The output is simple: the more popular content makers there are, the more viewers will watch the broadcasts.
The reason for such a sharp rise in the popularity of most events is the high media activity of Spanish streamers, TheDonato with 22.7M subscribers on YouTube to name one. Interestingly, not a single tournament from an English-language streamer reached our top.
Who got the most viewers?
If you consider the top in terms of peak viewers, in addition to the Nobru tournaments, two events from the Spaniard TheGrefg, this year's PV record holder, were also on the list. Grefg Summer Edition 2020 took place in the streamer's main game, Fortnite, and drew 351K concurrent viewers. This figure can be easily explained: 99 streamers and influencers participated in the event.
Calvogames is another event that featured TheGrefg. He was one of the team captains along with Ibai, Auronplay and DJMariio. The tournament was attended by 39 more people, including famous Spanish streamers, music artists and even football players. Together they fought in League of Legends, Valorant, CoD, FIFA, and PV of 295K was reached on the broadcast of the battle in Fortnite.
Third place went to the MFAM Gauntlet Warzone June Main Event from NICKMERCS, the top 1 Call of Duty streamer in 2020. The reasons for this success are not only in the fan base of Nicholas Kolcheff, but also in the participants of the event: among them you can find both sports stars and musicians, such as Megan Anderson, Josh Hart and Desiigner. Popular streamers also participated: in addition to NICKMERCS, Vikkstar123 on YouTube (45K viewers) and TimTheTatman on Twitch (40K viewers at the height of the broadcast) were the leaders in terms of peak viewers.
As you can see, the audience is most attracted by the presence of popular streamers in competitions, and the trend of such competitive events is observed primarily among Spanish content makers: they like to unite and create content together.
