November had plenty of game releases, presenting us with both the new projects (for example, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla) and remakes of the old classic titles (such as Demon’s Souls). Now, which game had the best performance on Twitch and which of the platform’s streamers came out on top?
Watch Dogs: Legion
Watch Dogs: Legion is the first title on our list. Although the game was released at the end of October, it is worth mentioning because of the innovations it introduced as well as the overall popularity of the series.
For the third game in the series, the setting was moved to London, and we also lost the protagonist. However, almost every NPC in the city can be recruited into one’s team, allowing to use them for completing missions. Sounds unusual, but what kind of reaction did the game get on Twitch?
The game was released on October 29 and reached the highest indicators on the very first day: 2.6 million hours watched and 321 thousand peak viewers. On its second day, the game was streamed by 628 fewer channels, causing its hours watched and peak viewers indicators to decrease by 61% and 58%, respectively. The indicators dropped by half on the third day as well and continued its decline by the end of the post-release week.
Based on hours watched, shroud became the top Watch Dogs: Legion streamer with 449 thousand hours watched over 17 hours of airtime. While shroud gathered 38 thousand peak viewers, the Spanish streamer Auronplay managed to outmatch him in this regard - being watched by 87 thousand peak viewers and 65 thousand average viewers over 2.8 hours of airtime on the platform.
The audience was rather diverse – but of course, the English-speaking viewers were leading, being responsible for 35% of the total hours watched. The second spot was occupied by German-speaking viewers with 12.90%. It should be noted that the German streamer GRONKH came second in terms of hours watched.
The Spanish-speaking viewers were quite close to reaching the second spot with their 12.61%. The Korean streamer Hanryang1125 closed the top 5 based on hours watched, but Korean viewers as a whole corresponded only to 6.7% of the total number of views.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla’s release on November 10 divided the players into two camps: some praise the game for covering one of the most interesting historical periods, while others complain about the protracted nature of its gameplay. Let’s check whether the game managed to keep the Twitch viewers hooked.
Although the game was released on November 10, the streams featuring it could be seen as early as November 7th due to early access. It collected a total of 2.4 million hours watched – however, it was the day of the release that truly peaked, amounting to 4 million hours watched and 286 thousand peak viewers.
On the second post-release day the game lost 45% of its hours watched and the indicators continued to drop – however, the results themselves are already superior to those of Watch Dogs.
Shroud became the most-watched streamer once again with a result of 851 thousand hours watched. Michael is also leading by peak viewers, gathering a total of 37 thousand.
This time, Hanryang1125 got the second spot, almost catching up with the leading streamer. The Korean-speaking audience as a whole contributed 12.02% of total hours watched but fell just 0.75% short of overtaking the French-speaking audience.
The French-speaking viewers followed the assassin’s adventures in the British Isles on the Gotaga channel for 726 thousand hours watched. Gotaga also spent the longest amount of time in the game out of the top 5: 92 hours.
CoD: Black Ops - Cold War
The 17th part of the Call of Duty was released on November 13 and received mixed reviews. Despite getting high marks from critics, the game earned only 3.2 points on Metacritic from the users. The game contains both the story mode and multiplayer mode, so there’s no need to worry about your Warzone achievements – the developers took care of transferring the data from the previous installment to the new one.
According to statistics, the first day after the release was also the one showing the peak performance: 6.5 million hours watched and 546 thousand peak viewers. This is the only game from our top that shows more or less stable post-release dynamics. The game’s competitive component was of tremendous help in this regard, given that one can access and play Warzone through the Cold War.
Taking the first spot in the Cold War ranking was scump with 1.2 million hours watched and 34 thousand peak viewers. While TimTheTatman was behind him in terms of hours watched, he became the ranking’s leader by the peak viewers indicator, reaching the mark of 83 thousand. It is somewhat strange to not see any of the leading CoD players in the top – as Nickmercs and Swagg chose to continue playing Modern Warfare and Warzone instead.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was the continuation of the Spider-Man series, but this time the signature Peter Parker was replaced by Miles Morales, who wields the same abilities.
The game is spectacular and has received good reviews from critics. However, the players were quite disappointed by its short duration, as the game could be completed in only 5-8 hours. This negatively affected the game's hours watched on Twitch, given that the top streamers could finish the game in a single day and switch to something else.
That’s why it was the day of the release that featured the highest indicators – 1.4 million hours watched and 165 thousand peak viewers. On the second day, the hours watched indicator dropped by 27% - but still roughly stayed at around one million hours mark.
The third day after the release saw a sharp decline, with the hours watched and the peak viewers decreasing by 62.5% and 80%, respectively. The reason once again lies in the game’s long duration coupled with the loss of streamer interest. On the fifth day, the game gathered 75 thousand peak viewers – likely because on that day LIRIK and Flight23white launched their streams, attracting the viewer interest. But as this was a one-time occurrence, afterward the indicators declined once again.
The most popular streamer for Spider-Man: Miles Morales was xQcOW, with 408 thousand hours watched and 85 thousand peak viewers in just 6.7 hours of airtime. The top was also full of Spanish-speaking streamers, while Spanish and Portuguese entered the top 3 languages by hours watched.
Rubius gathered the most average viewers – 61 thousand. It should be noted that the airtime of the top 5 streamers does not exceed 10 hours – which is yet another proof that streamers completed the game fairly quickly and then switched to other categories.
DIRT 5
One of the games from our selection is doing very badly. The indicators of DIRT 5 peaked before the game’s official release. Namely, on November 3rd, the game gathered 102 thousand hours watched and 28 thousand peak viewers. However, during the release day of November 6th, the game managed to reach only 14 thousand hours watched and 1.8 thousand peak viewers.
When considering the post-release week alone, the most successful day would be the second one: 21 thousand hours watched and 8.4 thousand peak viewers.
The leading streamer is LeBouseuh, hailing from France and using Twitch mostly to show his Rocket League performance. It should be noted that during the release week the game was not streamed by the top content makers widely known across the platform. The players themselves had a ton of complaints regarding such aspects of the new installment of the racing series as the physics and overly colorful levels, and so DIRT 5 wasn’t appreciated by streamers and gamers alike.
Demon’s Souls
Demon's Souls is the last game in our list of releases and the predecessor of such famous titles in the Souls series as Dark Souls and Bloodborne. The original title was released in 2009 while the remake was released on November 12th as a PS5 exclusive.
The game’s indicators are rather good. The peak hours watched indicator was achieved on the fifth day after the release and reached 2,1 million hours watched (although the graph shows that this mark was held for three days in a row). Meanwhile, the peak viewers indicator was achieved on the third day after the release and amounted to 223 thousand viewers.
Interestingly enough, the game’s performance stayed strong even by the end of the release week. On the seventh day, it gathered 1.6 million hours watched and 157 thousand peak viewers. All in all, Demon’s Souls managed to keep the viewer interest intact for the duration of a month.
The top streamers consist of the same old faces: Fextralife, xQc and Alanzoka. Thanks to the Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking viewers their respective languages made it to the top 3 by the hours watched. The span of seven days after the game’s release saw Asmongold taking the lead with 79 thousand peak viewers. Fextralife and Distortion2 spent the longest time in the game, accumulating 70 and 88 hours of airtime, respectively.
Among the November releases, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War had the best start both in terms of the peak viewers and hours watched. Based on the trends the second spot goes to Demon’s Souls. The game managed to stay on the platform for a long enough time (as for a simple remake), but that’s due to it being a PlayStation exclusive.
We can definitely single out the streamers with a penchant for entering the tops of the platform through trying the fresh game titles: shroud, Hanryang1125, Alanzoka, Fextralife and xQcOW.
