August was oversaturated with new game titles. Viewers saw new shooters, battle royales in non-standard settings, as well as the legendary titles, reborn. In this article, Streams Charts will tell you about the new titles on Twitch that came out in the last month and how they might be of interest to gamers. We will also take a look at the viewership statistics of these games, check which popular streamers have played them, and see whether the newcomer titles managed to amass their own audiences.
Disclaimer: We’ve taken into account the statistics of games for their first week on Twitch.
Results of Splitgate (August 1-7th)
Splitgate was the month’s first major title. This is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter from 1047 Games that was released to Early Access in 2019. The game was officially launched at the end of July and began to be actively streamed on the platform starting from mid-August. It is noted by many players that while the shooter itself is decent, the servers are currently problematic as they cannot withstand the influx of people.
While the dynamics shown by the Hours Watched indicator during August 1-7th is quite stable, the opposite is true regarding the Peak Viewers indicator – in which case the best result was achieved on the first day of the month already, amounting to 89K Peak Viewers. The leading streamer here is Felix “xQcOW” Lengyel, who gathered 78K viewers on his broadcast, as well as 101K Hours Watched on a single stream of his on August 6th. In terms of audience, 87% of Hours Watched were contributed by the viewers of English-language broadcasts.
Results of Back 4 Blood (August 5-11th)
Back 4 Blood is the next newcomer of the month. This is a zombie-themed FPS from Turtle Rock Studios, creators of Left 4 Dead. The game is scheduled to release in October 2021, but we were already able to check its gameplay on Twitch thanks to early access for streamers.
The statistics for the game’s first week on the platform (August 5-11th) were considered. The game reached the highest number of Hours Watched (4.4M) on August 6th. However, the indicators went into constant decline afterward due to the streamers switching to other categories. By August 10th, the game reached merely 27K Hours Watched per day.
Fextralife channel was leading in terms of Hours Watched – 1.4M Hours Watched in 54 hours of airtime. The youtuber Corpse_Husband was standing out in terms of Peak Viewers. While he specializes in horror stories, it was the title Among Us that made him popular. Subsequently, he began to try different games and attracted 78K Peak Viewers on his Back 4 Blood stream. In terms of language, English-language channels were responsible for 64% of Hours Watched, while 9% came from Hispanic channels.
Results of Diablo II: Resurrected (August 12-18th)
Diablo II: Resurrected is an updated version of one of the most iconic game titles ever. The new version will feature no plot changes, instead, it’ll introduce updated, fully 3D models, updated textures and interface. Integration with Battle.net and synchronization of game achievements will also be available.
As in the case of Back 4 Blood, streamers have received early access for a limited time, resulting in an unstable view rate. The highest Peak Viewers result was achieved on August 13th – the second day after the release. At that time the game was watched by 274K Peak Viewers. The third day saw the highest Hours Watched indicator – 2.3M.
Fextralife channel dominated in terms of both Hours Watched (1M) and Peak Viewers (49K). The updated Diablo even managed to attract Amouranth. Kaitlyn, with her 14 hours of airtime, made it to the top 5 in terms of Hours Watched. When it comes to the audience, the English-speaking viewers were responsible for 57% of Hours Watched, while the Korean-speaking viewers were responsible for 12%.
Results of Humankind (August 17-23rd)
The Humankind strategy from Amplitude Studios has appeared on the platform since August 17th. The game became a direct rival to the Civilization game series. The gist of both titles is the same, but Humankind has its own features, such as the creation of a “leader of a nation”, the ability to switch factions, and a different progression system.
The first day was the game’s most successful one, both Hours Watched-wise (600K) and Peak Viewers-wise (105K). The game’s indicators began to decline right after, with the Hours Watched reaching merely 116K on August 23rd. The number one streamer in terms of Hours Watched was the Korean streamer hanryang1125, who accumulated 114K Hours Watched while being 8 hours on the air. Meanwhile, the American streamer LIRIK was in the lead in terms of Peak Viewers (25.9K).
The audience of Humankind was rather diverse, with English-speaking channels being responsible for bringing 36% of it, while the French- and Korean-speaking channels were responsible for 18% and 14% of the audience, respectively.
Results of Naraka Bladepoint (August 16-22nd)
Naraka Bladepoint is a battle royale from the Chinese company NetEase that takes place in an Asian-inspired setting. The game features both melee and ranged weapons, as well as characters with unique abilities, and several game modes – everything to keep the players from being bored.
In terms of statistics, Naraka Bladepoint gathered 296K Hours Watched on its first day on Twitch (August 16th). The indicators peaked on August 20th, largely thanks to Shroud. Once Michael launched his broadcast, the game reached 429K Hours Watched. His broadcast also became the most popular in terms of Peak Viewers (26K). But LIRIK overtook Shroud in terms of Hours Watched in the general top, where Saqib scored 128K Hours Watched, while Michael scored only 72K.
The viewers of English-speaking channels were responsible for the most Hours Watched (62%) followed by the Chinese-speaking fans of the genre (10%).
Which game became the most popular in August 2021?
As it can be seen, of all the new titles, the audience liked Back 4 Blood the most – hence, the game’s indicators weren’t plagued by a sharp decline as opposed to the rest of the titles. The second spot went to Diablo II: Resurrected. Overall, only a couple of new titles were able to keep the audience’s interest. The viewers mostly come to the broadcasts of new games to evaluate the gameplay and decide whether to buy the game or not. After that, they either go to play the game by themselves or switch to their usual categories.
