New World: The Week on Twitch

New World: The Week on Twitch
Share:

New World is a new MMORPG from Amazon Game Studios Orange County. The developers released a closed beta test version and allowed famous streamers to try out the new project. In the new article, Streams Charts will tell you how the "World of Warcraft killer" performed on Twitch a week after the launch.

New World has caused a lot of hype among fans of the MMO genre, first and foremost due to the long wait. Originally, the developers promised to arrange open beta testing, but unexpectedly postponed the release from July 2020 to spring 2021, and then released the game in a preview version rather than a beta one. That being said, despite the still-raw state of the game, New World has received pretty good reviews from fans of the genre.

New World was first shown on Twitch on July 20th, with the game collecting 4.9M Hours Watched and 731K Peak Viewers during this day. The large influx of viewers was because the game was streamed not only by English-speaking streamers, causing the audience of other languages to be encompassed as well.

The Peak Hours Watched mark was achieved on the second day since the release: 5.1M. However, the Peak Viewers indicator saw a sharp decline: 331K. That’s a 54.7% decrease compared to the first day. This likely happened due to many popular streamers merely trying the game on the first day, only to abandon it in favor of streaming in other categories next.

Simultaneously, the dynamics shown by the Hours Watched and Peak Viewers indicators are uneven. There’s a drop seen from the 3rd to the 5th day after the release – but there’s also an increase in Hours Watched and Peak Viewers seen starting from July 25th. Naturally, the reason lies with the popular streamers that returned to came back to try the game once again.

In total, over seven days on the platform, New World reached 25.9M Hours Watched. In terms of audiences, 51% of Hours Watched are attributed to English-speaking viewers, 14.3% to Portuguese-speaking viewers, and 9.7% to French-speaking viewers.

Let’s take a look at the most-watched streamers. The first spot was taken by the Fextralife gaming community, with a sizable gap separating them from the closest competitors. Over the week, Fextralife streamers played 94 hours of New World and received 1.9M Hours Watched. Also, many have come to their channel thanks to Twitch Drops and free game loot.

TimTheTatman holds the second spot, but his Hours Watched indicator is 32% less than that of Fextralife. At the same time, Timothy has one of the highest Peak Viewers indicators – 61K.

JoshOG was on air for the longest time – 109 hours. Asmongold became the leader in terms of Peak Viewers: 135K people watched his five-hour broadcast at the same time. Because the stream was short, Asmongold also leads in terms of Average Viewers – 117K.

At the end of the release week (July 20-26th), New World ranked fourth among all Twitch categories on the platform. At the same time, the game is leading not only in terms of streaming but also in Steam, becoming the #1 game in terms of revenue per week.
