The long-awaited movie "Spider-Man: No Way Home" premiered in most countries. A new story about a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man earned $260M million in the first weekend in the United States (this is the second best result in history!), beating "Avengers: Infinity War" by $3M.
Streams Charts has compiled statistics for Spider-Man mentions in chat streams on Twitch since the beginning of December. Curiously, the first rise in popularity of the superhero on the streaming platform was facilitated not by the film itself, but by the appearance of Spider-Man in the third chapter of Fortnite. On December 5, Twitch users mentioned the hero in 8.5K messages.
Since the premiere of "Spider-Man: No Way Home" took place on December 13 in Los Angeles, the hero's popularity on Twitch began to grow from that day onward.
At the same time, the movie debuted around the world only on December 15. The movie premiered in the US on December 17, which was when Spider-Man's mentions on Twitch peaked. On this day, the name of the superhero was written 178K times in 22K messages. People literally went crazy and actively spammed the “Spider-Man” phrase on Twitch chat. This is what caused a huge jump from 21K to 178K mentions.
It should be noted that the final trailer of "Spider-Man: No Way Home" was released on November 17, and almost 2K Twitch channels used variations of the word "spider" in the titles of their broadcasts on that day. By the day of the film's premiere in the United States, this figure was also growing, but the previous record wasn’t beaten. The data was collected using our Wordstat service.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” was one of the most anticipated movies of the year and quite naturally became one of the highest-grossing movies.
