In the streaming world, community and collaboration are alpha and omega. It’s common for streamers to connect with other content creators in order to enhance their broadcasts and possibly gain more traffic. In fact, association with established creators can kickstart one’s career and decide about its future development.
To provide an easy way for streamers to connect and unite, Twitch has a feature that allows creating stream groups, or Twitch Teams, directly on the platform. Teams are typically created around shared interests and goals among members or as a way for like-minded creators to connect and expand into a greater community.
How do Twitch Teams work?
A Twitch Team is essentially a group of streamers on Twitch under a distinctive banner. All members of the Team are displayed in the member list which features currently live channels at the top. Streamers who are live are also featured in the Team’s video player, with the team’s description shown below the player. Moreover, members of Twitch Teams have their team’s name shown in the channel info and are able to showcase the team banner on their channels.
At the time of writing this article, the option to create a team is available only to members of the Twitch Partner Program. While there are no limitations to the number of teams a user can join, Twitch partners can create and lead a maximum of two teams.
Benefits of joining a Twitch Team
The biggest and most important benefit of Twitch Teams feature is networking. By being a part of a Twitch team, streamers can gain more opportunities to network and collaborate with other streamers, expand their audience and potentially venture into other media and topics.
Besides networking, being a part of a team provides streamers with support and advice from their peers, as well as access to community events.
All of this ultimately leads to channel growth and further sponsorship opportunities, that’s why joining a Twitch team has become a recommended step on a journey towards a growing presence on the platform.
How to join a Twitch Team
In order to join an existing Twitch Team, you need to receive an invitation from a current team member. After receiving the invite:
- Go to your Channel Settings section.
- Click Featured Content.
- Scroll down to the section named My Teams.
- Select Accept on the team invite to join that team.

Note that Team invites can expire. If you don't have any active invites or current teams, you won't be able to see the My Teams section on the Featured Content tab.
Team settings
Once you have joined a Twitch Team, you will be able to view and edit your team settings. Go to My Teams section under the Channel and Videos tab of your Channel Settings to manage the following options:
- View your team
- Stats — share your channel’s statistics with the team owner
- Revenue — share your channel’s revenue information with the team owner
- Main — select a team as your main and make the team’s display name be featured in your channel info
- Remove — remove yourself from a team
How to create a Twitch Team
If you’re a Twitch Partner looking to create a new team, you will need to open a ticket while logged in and make a creation request. In your ticket, provide the following information:
- Team Page URL — cannot be changed once set
- Team Display Name
- Twitch account to own/edit
Twitch Partners are limited to the creation of two teams (deleting or transferring the ownership of a team does not allow for further creation requests). While only Partners can create teams, any account can be set in the owner/editor role. There can be only one owner/editor for a Twitch Team.
How to edit/manage a Twitch Team
To manage owned Twitch Team, head to the My Teams section of your Channel settings. Then click on the Edit button to manage the Team Dashboard, which will have the following options:
- Revenue — information about the revenue generated by team members (if they have chosen to share this information)
- Stats — team members’ channel stats (if they have chosen to share this information)
- Members — invite or remove members and decide the order of priority, which determines who will be featured on the team page when multiple members are streaming at the same time
- Featured Channels — choose channels to feature when no team members are live
- Settings — change team’s display name, public description, logo, banner and background image
How to choose a Twitch Team
There are several factors to consider when choosing a Twitch Team to join. For starters, it’s important to look for teams that match your own ideals, approach and goals. In other words, make sure that you fit the team and that the team fits you.
Things to consider:
- Branding — pay attention to how the team presents itself, as strong branding can be greatly beneficial to everybody involved
