Game shows, marriage, and more — most popular content and viewership of TwitchCon Las Vegas 2023

Game shows, marriage, and more — most popular content and viewership of TwitchCon Las Vegas 2023
Share:

TwitchCon’s first-ever weekend in Las Vegas ended on Sunday, October 22. The event saw streamers from all around the world visit the Las Vegas strip to attend, and almost 3.5K individual channels went live to cover the event. The event garnered millions of watch time each day, and the viewership the convention received on Saturday was more than the entirety of watch time garnered by TwitchCon Paris 2023.

One of the biggest pieces of news to come out of TwitchCon was that the platform will now allow streamers to simulcast to whatever platforms they wish, allowing streamers to diversify their audience and grow their brand. Of course, there were also many pieces of news from the community, such as proposals, marriage, and more.

TwitchCon Las Vegas 2023 viewership statistics

Across the almost 3.5K channels that went live to cover the event, TwitchCon Las Vegas 2023 received 5.91M Hours Watched in total. For comparison, TwitchCon Paris earlier this year saw only 1.2K channels and garnered 2M Hours Watched.

For the total watch time received by the event, English-language broadcasts were accountable for 81% of this viewership. For the first day of the event, German was the second most popular language, but Portuguese-language broadcasts got more popular as the event went on. In the end, 7.1% of the watch time was due to Portuguese-language streams.

Naturally, as an event held in the United States English-speaking broadcasts were a majority. However, of the top 5 nationalities of streamers at the event, English-speaking countries dominated the top 5. The United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Australia were the most represented countries by creators at the convention.

By breaking down the total channels at the events into various Average Viewers brackets, we can see that the large majority of channels at the event received 0-50 Average Viewers. By the end of the event, only 38 channels fell into the top bracket: more than 5001 Average Viewers. Let’s take a look at the most popular channels of these top 38.

Top Channels of TwitchCon Las Vegas 2023

EsfandTV was the most-watched creator of the entire event, with 358.7K Hours Watched. Although EsfandTV was not the most popular creator at the event, he managed to earn the most watch time by covering the event at all hours. Esfand would stream twice a day, one stream covering the day of the event, and another during the nights after the convention.

In second place was JenFoxxx, who was the only other creator to earn more than 300K Hours Watched. She received more than half of her viewership on the first day of the event, thanks to a 7-and-a-half-hour-long broadcast. As the event went on, her broadcasts became shorter and shorter and her watch time began to falter.

Note: Some statistics of streamers for this ranking have shown suspicious viewer behaviour. These metrics are marked with an asterisk and should be treated with caution.

In the middle of our top 5 most-watched channels was the official Twitch broadcasting channel. The official channel went live each day, covering various events, talks, and official announcements from Twitch. The most popular content for the official channel was actually community-hosted game shows, which you can read more about here.

In fourth place was Knut, who received the large majority of his viewership thanks to a single stream. The Norwegian creator announced he would be marrying his partner of 15 years at the event, and broadcast it live on Twitch. He received 172K Hours Watched for the broadcast and reached 41.8K Peak Viewers, enough to rank him as one of the top 5 most popular creators of the event. Knut’s success was boosted by community members, m0xyy, zoil, jinnytyy, and robcdee, who all raided his stream with 1K+ viewers.

Nmplol was the final most-watched creator of the event and also ranked fifth by Peak Viewers. Nmplol hosted a series of road trip broadcasts on his way to TwitchCon, and a special Racing stream the day before with other creators. These special broadcasts ended up being more popular than his coverage of TwitchCon itself, but he still received a significant amount of viewership for the two days he was broadcasting.

OTK Schooled hosted live by Mizkif at TwitchCon Las Vegas 2023, via Twitch

Mizkif and AustinShow were the two most popular creators of the event, with 75.6K PV and 48.7K PV, respectively. They both became the most popular creators of the event thanks to their gameshows which they hosted live at TwitchCon. These two events were also broadcasted by the official Twitch broadcast and were the most popular content from the official channel throughout the weekend.

Finally, popular Mexican streamer Quackity went live on his secondary channel (QuackityToo) for a short hour-long broadcast with other creators. He received 39.5K Peak Viewers in under an hour, making him the most popular channel of the event with the least amount of Airtime.

TwitchCon Las Vegas 2023 Dynamics

Looking at the viewership for the TwitchCon weekend on a day-by-day basis, we can see that Saturday was the most influential day for viewership, with 2.2M Hours Watched accumulated. Friday and Sunday were both very similar in terms of watch time, but Sunday saw 1K fewer hours of Airtime compared to Friday.

Although viewership for the event increased as the weekend progressed, the number of channels live experienced the inverse trend. Friday hosted the Peak Channels of 1.8K for the weekend, and this slightly dropped for Saturday, before significantly dropping on Sunday. Many top streamers who broadcasted on Friday and Saturday appeared to take a break on Sunday, perhaps wishing to simply enjoy the event instead of broadcasting.

TwitchCon Las Vegas 2023 was one of the biggest live-streaming events of the year for Twitch and presented an opportunity for channels to collaborate, grow, and network in a condensed area. Although the viewership and top channels of the event were dominated by household-name streamers, in general, most streamers to attend the event saw a significant uptick in viewership while broadcasting.
