It's been exactly seven days since the official release of Assassin's Creed Shadows, so it’s the perfect time to review how the game’s release has performed. Over the past week, Ubisoft's latest title has been all over gaming news, generating plenty of buzz on social media, and of course, it’s climbed to the top of the most-popular games on livestreaming platforms.
During the first week of release, Assassin's Creed Shadows streams generated over 10.9 million hours of watch time. Its peak viewership reached 250,777 and peak channels hit 5,383. The large number of active streamers was largely due to the game's launch being tied to Twitch Drops — viewers could earn cosmetic items for Assassin's Creed Shadows characters simply by watching a few hours of streams.
The highest viewer activity for Assassin's Creed Shadows came during the early access period when many top streamers kicked off their broadcasts. During those days, the game ranked fourth in watch time and third in peak viewership on the platform. After the official release, viewer engagement dropped slightly, and by the end of the first week, Assassin's Creed Shadows fell to sixth place in Twitch's most-watched games ranking. It held the same spot in the ranking for peak viewer count as well.
The primary platform for Assassin's Creed Shadows streams in the first week was Twitch — Amazon's streaming service accounted for nearly 81% of the total watch time for the game. The largest contributions came from streamers in the United States, Germany, and France, whose channels generated 31.9%, 11.9%, and 8.3% of the total watch time on the platform, respectively.
The most-watched streamer for Assassin's Creed Shadows during its first week of release was American streamer Roberto ‘’Fanum’’ Pena — his streams of the game racked up over 572,000 hours of watch time. Fanum not only handed out Twitch Drops during his broadcasts but also organized an all-out marathon to play through the game. Starting on March 22, he streamed nearly around the clock, with an average of over 13,500 viewers on his channel.
The most popular streamer by peak viewership for Assassin's Creed Shadows was Zach ‘’zackrawrr’’ Hoyt — his stream hit 55,004 viewers. zackrawrr also had the highest average viewership, with over 39,200 viewers across nearly 12 hours of streaming.
When comparing the release week of Assassin's Creed Shadows to other games in the franchise, the feudal Japan-themed game generated twice as many watch hours as Assassin's Creed Mirage. However, it couldn’t beat Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which racked up over 13.7 million HW during its release week.
Comparing the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows with other new titles, the Ubisoft game ranked third in terms of watch time, trailing far behind Monster Hunter Wilds, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Nevertheless, it still outranked other popular releases such as Split Fiction, Avowed, and Sid Meier's Civilization VII.
