The official release of Battlefield 2042 on PC and consoles took place on November 19, and a week before that the owners of Gold and Ultimate editions were able to try out the game. Unlike previous installments in the franchise, there is no single player campaign in Battlefield 2042. The setting of the game is the near future, where humanity has spent almost all the resources of the Earth, and the military conflict unfolded between the United States and Russia. The developers of Battlefield 2042 have focused on multiplayer, dividing it into several major modes. One of the game’s main features is an increased number of players on the server — now up to 128 players can join the battle at once, two times as many as in previous titles in the series.
Although players massively complain about bugs and errors, the shooter was welcomed by the media and critics: at the time of publication of the article, game's score on the Metacritic is 73 points out of 100.
Viewership Statistics of Battlefield 2042 on Twitch
Battlefield 2042 immediately made it to the top 10 categories on Twitch, finishing in seventh place after a week on the platform. The shooter lost to Just Chatting, GTA V, League of Legends, Minecraft and VALORANT, which always have huge audience, but at the same time BF2042 bypassed Fortnite, CS:GO, Teamfight Tactics and almost caught up with Apex Legends.
In its first week on Twitch, the game scored 12.2 million Hours Watched. At the peak the streams of Battlefield 2042 attracted 344K Peak Viewers — thus the DICE game bypassed League of Legends, Apex Legends and VALORANT.
Battlefield 2042 Most Watched Streamers
The biggest contributor to Battlefield 2042's Twitch stats was shroud. His streams of the game gained 1.29 million Hours Watched (10.6% of the total) — it's four times more than the closest pursuer got. The second place was taken by xQc with 311K Hours Watched in just 5 hours of airtime. He also attracted the largest peak audience of 87.7K viewers.
The top 5 also includes LIRIK, who collected just 7K Hours Watched less than xQc. Stodeh and alanzoka closed the top five with 302K and 295K Hours Watched, respectively.
Battlefield 2042 vs Call of Duty: Vanguard Viewership Comparison
The main competitor of BF2042 was also released in November — Call of Duty: Vanguard, which became available to the public a week before the extended versions of Battlefield 2042. Overall, the game by Activision turned out to be more popular among Twitch viewers by almost every metric.
Most of all, BF2042 yielded to a competitor in terms of the number of channels streaming the game — the average number turned out to be 65% less, and the peak — almost 70% less. BF2042 also scored 34% less Hours Watched, and the average audience was 30% less than that of CoD: Vanguard.
The only metric by which Battlefield 2042 has surpassed the Vanguard is Peak Viewers number. Streams of DICE's game reached 344K Peak Viewers, which is almost 5% more than Vanguard had in its first week after release.
