Breakdown of German-speaking Twitch streamers in Q1 2022

As a part of our quarterly series of analyses of the biggest Twitch language groups, this article examines the viewership statistics of the Top 100 German-speaking content creators on the platform during the first quarter of 2022 (January-March).

Note: Studio and gaming community channels have been excluded from these statistics. 

In Q1 2022, the Top 100 German-speaking Twitch streamers generated 175.39M Hours Watched, which makes 2.94% of total Hours Watched (5.97BN) accumulated on the platform and 51.96% of total HW (974.84M) generated by all German-speaking Twitch streamers. 

Compared to the previous quarter, the number of Hours Watched generated by the Top 100 decreased by 7.86%

The country distribution shows Germany as the most represented country among the Top 100, with 96 out of the 100 creators being German, two being from Turkey, one from Switzerland and one from New Zealand. 

Most watched German-speaking Twitch streamers in Q1 2022

The most popular German-speaking Twitch streamer in Q1 2022 was Elias “Eliasn97” Nerlich, who generated over 15.89M Hours Watched (9% of the total HW by the Top 100) streaming a variety of games, including Fortnite, Valorant and Among Us, as well as Just Chatting. The FIFA esports player and CEO of German esports organisation FOKUS CLAN increased his HW count by 82% and jumped three ranks up since Q4 2021. 

Moreover, he reached the second-highest viewership peak among the Top 100 in Q1 2022 — 115.57K Peak Viewers tuned in to his broadcast of the Fortnite tournament he organised in collaboration with streamer Amar. The $20,000 event featured 99 competitors in trios comprised of streamers, esports players and footballers. Amar’s broadcast of the event saw the highest concurrent viewership among the German-speaking segment of Twitch in Q1— 118K Peak Viewers

The second was League of Legends streamer and esports player Frederik "NoWay4u_Sir" Hinteregger, who garnered 11.25M Hours Watched (6.42% of the total HW by the Top 100), showing 58.2% growth since the previous quarter. He streams mainly League of Legends and is considered the biggest LoL streamer in Germany.

Last quarter’s number one Marcel “MontanaBlack88” Eris ended up in a third place with 9.16M Hours Watched (5.22% of the total HW by the Top 100), which is 67% less than his viewership in Q4 2021. He also hit the third-highest peak in the Top 100 — 111.6K concurrent viewers watched his stream of the 6000€ Mario Kart streamer tournament organised by streamer Flying Uwe

The rest of the streamers in the Top 10 most-watched German-speaking Twitch creators in Q1 2022 included Trymacs, GRONKH, Amar, Dhalucard, GronkhTV, Bonjwa and MckyTV.

When it comes to audience overlap among the Top 5 German-speaking streamers, the biggest intersection was between audiences of Eliasn97, Trymacs and MontanaBlack88. 

While 62.12% of Eliasn9's viewers watched also Trymacs’s broadcasts, 58.09% of his viewers were also interested in MontanaBlack88’s content. Moreover, 60.84% of Trymacs’s audience overlaps with MontanaBlack88’s audience. 

GRONKH’s and NoWay’s audiences overlap with other content creators by only 4-12%.

Most watched female German-speaking Twitch streamers

Similarly to the previous quarter, the most popular female German-speaking Twitch streamer in Q1 2022 was Sintica, who generated 1.2M Hours Watched (0.69% of the total HW by the Top 100) — the same number as in Q4 2021. The German musician is one of the most earning female creators on Twitch, along with Pokimane and Amouranth

The second spot is occupied by sukidingels with 881.6K Hours Watched (0.5% of the total HW by the Top 100). The German Vtuber streams mostly Rust, Just Chatting and Rune Factory 5 and although she didn’t get into the Top 10 female German-speaking Twitch streamers in Q4 2021, she now reached the highest viewership peak among girls — 17.5K concurrent viewers tuned into her 21 hours-long Rust stream in March, which ended up being her most successful broadcast to date.  

Closing the Top 3 is RevedTV with 823.6K Hours Watched and the second-highest concurrent viewership among girls — 13.3K Peak Viewers. RevedTV’s HW count improved by 0.67% since Q4 2021, while remaining in the third position. 

The Top 10 most-watched female German-speaking Twitch creators in Q1 2022 included HoneyPuuShurjokaVanessa_Lopez_OfficialJenNyanMahlunaxPandorya, as well as Divi.

Most popular categories

In Q1 2022, the audience of the Top 100 German-speaking Twitch creators enjoyed watching mostly broadcasts in Grand Theft Auto V, generating 25.29M Hours Watched, which is 14.42% of the total HW by the Top 100.

The Top 10 categories in Q1 also included Just ChattingFortniteLeague of LegendsLost ArkFIFA 22RustElden RingVALORANT and F1 2021.
