CDawgVA's second cyclethon — how did it affect his viewership stats?

CDawgVA's second cyclethon — how did it affect his viewership stats?
Share:

CDawgVA recently finished his second cyclethon alongside fellow content creator AbroadInJapan, where the duo raised $550K for the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF). This exercise allowed him to surpass 1 million followers on the purple platform, while the final day of the nine-day cycling marathon stream became his most popular broadcast to date.

The Denbigh, Wales-born streamer undertook this cyclethon on March 18, traveling across Kyushu and covering 528 miles (850 kilometers) while looking to raise money and create awareness about the IDF. It was his second such effort after doing another cycling marathon last September, where he and fellow creator Abroad covered 500 miles across Hokkaido in Japan and raised over $300K.

The nine-day event's viewership performance  Overall numbers from his Cyclethon 2

The 26-year-old’s 2023 Japanese cyclethon did 1.55M Hours Watched and 18K Average Viewers over nine days. The last day of this event attracted 33K Peak Viewers, making it his most popular stream to date, surpassing the final stream of his 2022 cyclethon in the process. Also, having shared every moment of his fundraiser, CDawgVA and his colleague were able to collect a massive $170K on the final day of the event for a total of over $550K.

It also helped the content creator gain 37K followers, thus pushing him past the 1M followers mark. It was just reward for the efforts he put in as he cycled across the expanse of the third-largest island of Japan's five main islands.

Viewership performance of each day of the cyclethon  Daywise breakdown of the event

Interestingly, only the first and last days of his week-plus exercise did 30K PV, with the first stream notching 30K PV. This led to a neat little occurrence where his first and fifth most popular streams ever were from Cyclethon 2, while the middle three places went to three broadcasts from its first iteration last year.

For those wondering, CDawgVA moved to Tokyo in 2019 while entering the content scene, and within months, he became famous for his podcast, Trash Taste, featuring The Anime Man and Gigguk. He creates vlog-styled IRL content in Japan for GeeXPlus — a prominent Tokyo-based talent management and global media company — and much of his work aims to portray Japanese anime and pop culture to Western audiences. His achievements from last year helped the Brit clinch the Best Philanthropic Stream Event award at The Streamer Awards 2023.

Chat numbers and income  A thorough chat analysis from the fundraiser

CDawgVA got 77K total messages across his cycle marathon, which led to 43K Active Chatters. His Chat Engagement Rate was a solid 13.2%, meaning that 13 out of 100 Authorized Viewers tuned in to his chat every time he was engaging with his audience.

The streamer, who is also a professional otaku, had 605 Cheer messages and 360 Cheer Chatters. He spent 84K Total Bits and made $848 from them. The top five words in his chat during this phase were oug (69K mentions), here (60K), cdawgclap (52K), cdawglove (48K), and kekw (43K), two of which are his own chat emotes.

Lots of popular streamers overlapped with his broadcasts  How his streams overlapped with other broadcasts from his Twitch colleagues

In terms of audience overlap, of the former London-based corporate narrator’s 310K AVs, 31.9% of them also checked out the content of ironmouse, one of Twitch’s most famous female streamers. Then came PremierTwo, another English content creator based in Japan who posts IRL content, as 19.6% of their audience crossed over.

Most of the top names who overlapped are popular streamers like moistcr1tikal, HasanAbi, xQc, and PewDiePie, with most being creators who prefer the JustChatting/IRL genre. And many of these online personalities were on hand to congratulate CDawgVA on his amazing work in raising $500K for a special cause and raising the bar from his first cyclethon.

With these philanthropic causes being a hit and helping him gain followers and fame, the internet star will surely come up with more such ideas in the near future. For now, he can rest easy knowing his latest outing will help change the lives of a lot of those in need.
