Q1 of 2022 ended, and Streams Charts sums up the streamers' results in the most popular Twitch languages. First, we will tell about top English-language streamers: who is the most popular streamer on the platform in January-March, what female streamers made it to the top-100, and which categories were the most popular with viewers.
Reminder: the ranking does not take into account the statistics of the studios' channels and gaming communities.
Overall statistics
Unlike the statistics of the second half of 2021, in Q1 of 2022, one hundred of the most popular English-speaking streamers on the platform increased their Hours Watched numbers. In particular, the result of the Q1 is higher by 15.7% than in October-December, as in January-March, viewers spent more than 728.7 million hours watching their channels
Top English-speaking creators contributed almost 24% to the English total for the first three months of 2022. If we consider the entire platform's statistics, their contribution was more than 11.4%.
Considering the contribution of individual countries, the leadership, as always, belongs to the United States: streamers from this country accumulated more than 69% of the total top Twitch streamer's Hours Watched. Next come Canada (15.5%), Sweden (6%), the United Kingdom (3.5%) and Australia (1.4%), just as in Q4 2021.
Most Popular English-Speaking Twitch Streamers in Q1 2022
Felix xQcOW Lengyel continues to be the undisputed leader of the platform. In January-March the streamer accumulated 62.9 million Hours Watched, which is approximately 3% more than he had in the Q4, 2021.
At the same time, the gap between first and second place narrowed. The top 2 English-language streamer on the platform is Tyler Trainwreckstv Niknam, who accumulated 30.6 million Hours Watched, almost doubling his results of the last quarter. It should be noted that in the ranking is one more gambling streamer along with Tyler. We mean Ishmael ROSHTEIN Swartz, who takes sixth place.
Zack Asmongold rounds out the top three in language. He returned to streaming on his main channel during the launch of the western version of Lost Ark: on this day, he set a new record for his channel's Peak Viewers number (over 430K) and became the top ten by this metric.
Among the newcomers in the top are ex-CS:GO player and now popular Valorant caster Tarik ‘tarik’ Celik and Adin Ross, a variety streamer and a big fan of hip-hop culture.
Most Popular English-Speaking Twitch Female Streamers in Q1 2022
Kaitlyn Amouranth Siragusa is no longer the most watched female streamer on Twitch. In Q1 2022, she was surpassed by a VTuber ironmouse, who made a stir in late February, when she held the most successful subathon on the platform and took the first place among all Twitch content makers by paid subscribers. Viewers spent more than 10.7 million hours watching ironmouse broadcasts between January and March, almost 33% more than Amouranth's total.
Compared to the Q4, 2021, the top 100 English-speaking creators on the platform includes two more female streamers, and in the Q1 2022 we see seven female streamers in this top 100. Kkatamina и Kyedae dropped out, while fuslie, Shylily and Sommerset replaced them in the top 100.
Pokimane had the most successful broadcast by Peak Viewers. The January broadcast, which featured a drama with JiDion and Ninja, was watched by 57.7K Peak Viewers.
Most Popular Twitch Categories in Q1 2022
Twitch's two most popular categories remained unchanged. Just Chatting is in the lead as usual. The category accumulated 102.7 million Hours Watched in January-March (+5%), and Grand Theft Auto 5 is in second place with 88.1 million Hours Watched (+29%).
Gambling category Slots jumped into third place, but in the last three months of 2021 it ranked sixth. Largely thanks to Trainwreckstv and ROSHTEIN, the category's result increased by 115% in Hours Watched.
The newcomers of the category ranking (Lost Ark and Elden Ring) are probably the most successful game releases in the West at the beginning of 2022: it should be noted that the game from FromSoftware still draws an extremely large audience on Twitch, despite being released more than a month and a half ago.
It is also worth noting that Escape from Tarkov's New Year's Eve event, which ended in January, placed the game in the top 10 categories of the platform at the end of the Q1.
As for the audience overlap of the most popular streamers, xQc, HasanAbi and Tyler1 had the most viewers shared.
It is worth mentioning that more than half of Trainwreckstv’s viewers also attended xQc’s broadcasts, which is the highest number in the audience overlap matrix. Similarly, over 47.5% of HasanAbi's audience watched the Canadian creator.
Asmongold's audience is the most loyal, as fewer than a third of his viewers watched xQc, and only 12-18% of them watched other streamers.
The beginning of 2022 turned out to be extremely successful in the English-language segment of Twitch, which showed significantly higher numbers than in the last two quarters of 2021. The appearance of new popular games and the overall increased activity of creators in January-March allow us to suggest that this tendency will only continue in Q2.
