The FIFA World Cup 2026 has become the most-watched event ever recorded across the livestreaming platforms tracked by Streams Charts, generating more than 1.1 billion Hours Watched during the Group Stage alone. The total includes not only licensed match broadcasts, but also watch-alongs, live commentary, simulations, and other World Cup-related content produced around the tournament.
Beyond its overall scale, the event offers a clear view of how premium sports rights, regional distribution models and creator ecosystems affect platform performance, viewing behavior and brand discussion.

YouTube dominates as regional platforms reach new heights
The analysis includes licensed match broadcasts as well as live commentary, watch-alongs, watch parties, simulation streams and supporting coverage such as previews, interviews, press conferences and post-match analysis. Viewing on linear television and unsupported proprietary streaming services is not included.
Between June 11 and 29, which is when the extended Group Stage took place, all livestreaming platforms accumulated over a billion watch hours, according to Streams Charts. This includes what viewers saw live during matches and other FIFA World Cup 2026-related content generated around these games.
Brazil generated the strongest World Cup-related audience activity on YouTube. Led by Casimiro “CazéTV” Miguel’s coverage, the platform broke its all-time peak viewership record multiple times during matches involving the Brazilian national team.

YouTube alone put up more than one billion Hours Watched, accounting for 94.3% of all World Cup-related watch time tracked during the Group Stage.
The platform’s average concurrent viewership increased by 14.5% compared with the first five and a half months of 2026. Much of that uplift came from strong audience activity in Brazil, Africa and Southeast Asia, where official broadcasts and community-led content attracted substantial regional interest.
Twitch moved in the opposite direction, with its average viewership declining by more than 7.5% compared with the pre-tournament period. Unlike YouTube, the platform did not experience a broader audience uplift during the Group Stage.

The difference partly reflects the limited availability of licensed match broadcasts on Twitch, where World Cup-related activity was concentrated primarily around creator commentary and community coverage rather than the matches themselves.
South Korean coverage also emerged as one of the tournament’s largest regional segments. CHZZK and SOOP recorded substantial increases in average viewership as local audiences followed both licensed broadcasts and related content from community streamers.
CHZZK reached more than 4.9 million Peak Viewers during the Group Stage, setting a new platform record. The result also exceeded Kick’s all-time peak of 4.6 million viewers, despite CHZZK operating primarily within the South Korean market.

Almost 70% of World Cup-related watch time was generated by streams aired while matches were taking place. This category included licensed match broadcasts as well as live commentary, watch-alongs, watch parties and simulation-based streams.
The remaining 30% came from surrounding tournament coverage, including previews, post-match analysis, press conferences, interviews and recaps. Major media outlets accounted for much of this content, alongside community and IRL streamers covering the event outside match windows.

Within the channels and platforms covered by this analysis, no licensed live match broadcasts were identified for the United States, Mexico or Argentina during the Group Stage. Their tracked World Cup-related audiences therefore came entirely from commentary, watch-alongs, simulations and other community-led content.
This does not mean that the countries lacked national media rights holders. Rather, their licensed match coverage was either distributed through television and proprietary services outside the Streams Charts scope or had not yet been activated on the tracked platforms (as, for example, Darren "IShowSpeed" Watkins Jr.).
The balance may still change during the knockout stage if additional rights holders begin distributing match coverage through public livestreaming platforms.
The balance between licensed and community-led content varied significantly by market. Brazil and South Korea, the two leading countries by World Cup-related watch time, were both driven primarily by official rights holders, with licensed streams accounting for more than 65% of each market’s total Hours Watched.
Licensed rights holders also generated most of the tracked audience in Colombia, Nigeria and Qatar. Together with Brazil and South Korea, these markets illustrate how official broadcasters can remain the primary destination for livestreaming audiences when match coverage is made widely available on accessible digital platforms.
Official sponsorship did not always translate into higher chat discussion

Official World Cup sponsors recorded mixed changes in livestream chat activity during the Group Stage. In this analysis, brand discussion is measured through mentions in chats tracked by Streams Charts across YouTube, Twitch and Kick.
These figures reflect how often audiences discussed or posted about a brand. They should not be interpreted as a direct measure of on-screen exposure, sponsorship value or overall campaign performance.
Coca-Cola, Visa and Adidas recorded increases of between 5% and 15% in their share of tracked chat mentions during the Group Stage. McDonald’s, Hyundai, Kia, Hisense and Aramco moved in the opposite direction, receiving fewer mentions than during the pre-tournament comparison period.
Brands with long-standing associations with football, including Adidas and Coca-Cola, were among those that generated stronger chat activity. However, the available data does not suggest that this effect applied consistently across every sponsor or platform.

Betano represented a different type of case. The betting brand recorded a sharp increase in chat mentions during the Group Stage, but much of that activity came from creator-led affiliate campaigns rather than official World Cup sponsorship exposure.
Referral links and promotional messages were repeatedly posted by creators and viewers, particularly on Kick. This demonstrates how affiliate activity can generate substantial brand discussion independently of traditional sponsorship placements.
The case also highlights an important limitation of chat-based metrics: a sharp increase in mentions may reflect promotional repetition rather than organic audience interest.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 Group Stage shows that the livestreaming impact of a major sporting event extends well beyond official match broadcasts. Rights holders generated most of the audience in markets such as Brazil and South Korea, while creators, commentators and simulation channels played a larger role elsewhere.
For broadcasters, platforms and sponsors, Hours Watched remains a central measure of audience scale, but it does not capture the full digital footprint of the tournament. Understanding where viewers watch, which distribution models concentrate attention and how audiences discuss brands provides a more complete picture of the value generated around the event.
