FINAL FANTASY XIV Online became one of the most popular games on Twitch in July 2021. The title was released back in 2010, but gained popularity only 11 years after its release thanks to the popular streamer Asmongold. Streams Charts compared and contrasted the impact of his streams on the game's performance.
What is Final Fantasy XIV Online?
FINAL FANTASY XIV Online is an MMORPG game developed and published by the Japanese company Square Enix in September 2010. In 2012, the developers stopped supporting the title and soon released an updated version with a new engine, graphics, and gameplay.
Who is Asmongold?
Asmongold is an American streamer and one of the most famous World of Warcraft content creators. He started his career by recording YouTube videos, and in 2016 he began broadcasting on Twitch. At the moment, his channel has more than 2.3M subscribers.
Asmongold’s impact on FINAL FANTASY XIV Online
Asmongold's first FINAL FANTASY XIV Online broadcast, which took place on July 3rd, 2021, gathered over 150K Peak Viewers. During the stream, one of the game's servers collapsed, unable to cope with the influx of the content creator’s fans. Asmongold continued to actively broadcast the title afterward.
We analyzed the changes in the category a month after the start of regular broadcasts from Asmongold (spanning from July 3rd to July 30th) compared to the period spanning around one month (from June 5th to July 2nd) before this one. Therefore, during the month before the streamer's arrival, 22K people have launched a broadcast on FINAL FANTASY XIV Online at least once, with a total 5.2M Hours Watched being accumulated. These figures skyrocketed with the arrival of Asmongold: in four weeks the number of FINAL FANTASY XIV Online streamers increased to 36K (up 63%) while the Hours Watched increased to 24.7M (up 377%).
The number of channels simultaneously broadcasting FINAL FANTASY XIV Online was also affected by this growth. While before Asmongold’s arrival the game was streamed by 540 content creators on average, afterwards this figure grew to 762 (up 41%). And after Asmongold’s first broadcast on FFXIV, the Peak Channels indicator grew from 1270 to 1867 (up 47%).
In the first week after Asmongold’s broadcast, FINAL FANTASY XIV Online reached a total of 6.7M Hours Watched. Of these, 3.5M (52%) belonged to Asmongold himself, while the other 3.2M hours belonged to the rest of the streamers.
Afterward, the Twitch indicators of Asmongold and FINAL FANTASY XIV Online began to decline. In the second week, the streamer collected 2.4M (39%) out of the total 6.3M Hours Watched, in the third - 1.1M (18%) out of 6.1M, and the fourth - 1.4M (27%) out of 5.4M.
Despite all the attention given to FINAL FANTASY XIV Online by other popular streamers, Asmongold’s performance remained unmatched. Over the course of four weeks, he scored 8.5M Hours Watched (34.5%) out of 24.7M total. Following were richwcampbell and summit1g with 2.5M (10%) and 2.1M (8.7%), respectively.
Asmongold was far ahead of the competition in terms of the Peak Viewers indicator (213K) as well. The closest competitors, Richwcampbell and Rubius, scored only 45K (79% less) and 41K (81% less), respectively.
It is also notable that Asmongold managed to enter the top 10 streamers in the Final Fantasy XIV category twice – in terms of views and Peak Viewers. This was achieved using the streamer’s second channel called zackrawrr. As such, he has secured the eighth spot in the first ranking with 362K Hours Watched, and the fourth spot in the second ranking with 40K Peak Viewers.
Despite the drawdowns, FINAL FANTASY XIV Online is still in the top 20 most viewed categories on Twitch, and Asmongold remains the game’s most-watched streamer. His last FF XIV broadcast on August 18th amassed 412K Hours Watched and 68K Peak Viewers.
