Having recently participated in the successful MrBeast challenge that saw 50 renowned YouTubers battle each other — where JaidenAnimations was the victor — MoistCr1tikal found himself in the news again for apparently announcing an 'indefinite hiatus' from the internet. This came after his highly controversial debate with Sneako, with both influencers garnering enormous heat for their views on child marriage, trans rights, and underage hormone replacement therapy.
The popular live streamer was first declared as leaving the podcast group he is associated with, The Boys, on their Patreon. The statement noted:
"Effective immediately, Charlie (MoistCr1TiKaL) has decided to leave both the Official Podcast and Red Thread. He wants to go on an indefinite hiatus to scale back his time spent on the internet."
However, during a July 31 live broadcast, the American clarified he was just stepping away from a few projects, not social media entirely. He assured his fans:
"Everyone was under the impression that I was quitting the internet. When the f*** did that happen? I was becoming the very thing I'd make fun of, being chronically online. I was just always online and the podcasts were a big proponent of that. I just wanted to scale back the amount of time I spend online. To set the record straight, no, I'm not retiring. All I did was walk away from a couple of projects."
It must be noted once again that this all started when MoistCr1TiKaL and Rumble's Sneako got into a heated discussion during a July broadcast. Their takes on different topics got negative reactions from the entire online community, but they did more to damage the former's reputation, one he had managed to keep positive and friendly among most viewers for years.
Many also jumped on the fact that the 29-year-old, usually calm and collected with his takes, lost a lot of credibility due to his inability to express his views in the right way. He even issued a clarification on what he meant to say, but by then, the damage had been done, and most followers were not interested in seeing or hearing what he had to say.
Nevertheless, there is no doubt that MoistCr1TiKaL remains one of the most influential streamers in the North American scene. His fame has helped him accrue enough wealth to be able to dip his fingers in many entrepreneurial pies, including co-owning the highly-followed esports organization Moist Esports, which has active rosters in Super Smash Bros, Rocket League, and Apex Legends.
How long he decides to scale back his time spent online will be a fascinating wait, especially for fans who are used to seeing him daily across multiple channels, including Twitch and YouTube. For now, we are assuming he will greatly appreciate whatever time he gets away from the limelight, having been in the eye of the storm for almost the entirety of July.
