The highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds has officially launched, allowing players worldwide to dive into the action. As the sixth main installment in the series (though there are many spin-offs and versions for various platforms), it has earned critical acclaim, with an average Metacritic score of 90/100. As critics believe, title is poised to be a strong contender for Game of the Year in 2025.
The global release of Capcom's game has generated buzz among not just gamers but also streamers across the globe. On launch day, Monster Hunter Wilds saw remarkable livestreaming statistics, both in terms of content creator activity and viewer engagement. In fact, it quickly became the most-watched game on Twitch, while also breaking into the top 10 most-streamed categories across all platforms tracked by Streams Charts.
Wilds launched seven years after its predecessor, World. Players return to the role of a hunter, exploring the Forbidden Lands to track down a missing expedition crew, battling monsters and upgrading their gear along the way.
Within hours of its release, the game quickly became one of the top titles across multiple platforms. It reached nearly 1.3 million concurrent players on Steam alone. This surge of excitement also showed in its livestreaming performance across various platforms.
Perhaps the most impressive achievement is that the game topped the livestreaming category rankings (by Peak Channels) across all platforms over the past week, including giants like Twitch and YouTube. In fact, for the entire month of February, only Fortnite achieved a higher result, remaining the undisputed favorite game among streamers for years now.
It’s still too early to draw conclusions from the viewer stats, as less than 24 hours have passed since release. However, there have already been notable achievements on certain platforms, especially Twitch, which remains the dominant livestreaming platform for gamers in the West. In the past two days, the game has topped the service in peak concurrent viewers, reaching over 400,000. Over the past week, only industry giants like League of Legends and Counter-Strike have outperformed it in this metric.
In less than 24 hours, the game has already racked up over 5.3 million hours of content viewed. This is an extremely impressive feat, with Grand Theft Auto V being the only game close to matching it. However, even GTA V saw 100,000 fewer hours of viewing in the same time span.
The game has been well-received by streamers worldwide. At present, there's a general balance in the languages of the streams. Approximately 75% of the total watch time is divided among English, French, and Spanish content, with English leading slightly. Chinese-language streams are just behind, while German, Italian, and French account for around 2-4% of the total.
Interestingly, while Japanese content doesn’t account for a large share of total viewership, several Japanese streamers have made it into the game’s top 10 by total watch time, with even more appearing in the extended top 10 rankings. The current leader, with over 188,000 hours watched, is Zack “Asmongold”, streaming on both his main channel and his second channel, Zackrawrr.
By the end of the day, the game’s statistics will likely show even more growth. So far, it’s experiencing explosive growth in livestreaming and is clearly one of the top titles in terms of viewership for the day, and possibly even for the entire week since its release. The Streams Charts team will keep a close eye on the game’s performance and will report more interesting data in the coming days.
