Most popular Twitch games of January

No matter the effort, games don’t seem to be able to keep up with Just Chatting which once again became the most popular category on Twitch. However, the most watched game has changed: Rust became the #1 on Twitch because of RP-servers for streamers. Which other games performed better than in December? More about this in the new article by Streams Charts.

Just Chatting gained 246M Hours Watched in a month, which is 3% less than in December. Meanwhile, the rest of the category’s indicators are only growing, especially peak viewers: the presentation of the Icon Series Fortnite skin based on TheGrefg has gathered up to 2.4M concurrent viewers.

Rust amassed a total of 190M Hours Watched, which is 7.5 times more than in December. All other indicators of the game showed similar growth, all of that thanks to the servers from the community of content creators. OfflineTV was the first to go live (attracting many streamers, including xQc) followed by the launch of the Spanish EGOLAND. However, one should note that hype around Rust has already started to vanish as the game dropped out of top 10 in our latest weekly rating.

League of Legends retained the third spot in the ranking, although by Hours Watched the game showed a 71% growth in a month, resulting in 170M hours total. The increase was caused by the start of the spring splits in top regional leagues. It should be noted that the American LCS league is about to start on February 5th.

Escape from Tarkov continued to gain popularity, rising from tenth to fourth ranking spot in January. Success was largely boosted by the in-game New Years celebration, which lasted from December 28th to January 8th. During the event, players were receiving gifts through the Twitch Drops system which helped the game to become more popular on Twitch.

Fortnite dropped to the fifth spot after the end of the triumphant event with Galactus. It is noteworthy that only Fortnite and CS:GO have displayed a decline in Hours Watched (though insignificant) among games in top 10. Despite its unstable position in the ranking, Fortnite remains the top game of Twitch by amount of simultaneously streaming channels: 19.3K in January.

The main battle royale rival of Fortnite (Call of Duty: Warzone) continues to grow in popularity. In January the game amassed 79.6M Hours Watched, which is 18% more than in December. Unsurprisingly, Activision is already looking for ways to turn the game into an esports discipline.

Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto V and CS:GO also retained their spots in the top 10, and closing it was FIFA 21, whose Hours Watched grew in a month by 24% (55.2M).

Compared to the previous month, the games dropped out of top 10 are Cyberpunk 2077 (#77) and World of Warcraft (#12). Meanwhile, positive dynamics were shown by Valorant, its Hours Watched grew by 25%. The shooter by Riot Games has failed short of getting into the top 10 (#11).

In January, Hours Watched of Among Us (#15) dropped by 39% with all the other indicators also pointing to the fact that the game is gradually moving away from the scope of attention of the streamers. At the same time another non-gaming category Music (#16) is on a rise.

Path of Exile showed significant progress in the ranking, mostly thanks to the efforts of the Quin69, whose streams collected 15% of the total Hours Watched of the game (#19). The last spot in the ranking is taken by Dead by Daylight with 20.3M Hours Watched.
