The final stage of AT&T Annihilator Cup 2022 came to an end on April 30th. The latest event stood out not only by gathering famous streamers of Twitch, but with an innovative and multi-gaming format of the competition and spectacular rivalries.

After a rather positive debut of the Annihilator Cup in 2021, Texas-based telecommunication company AT&T decided to develop its last year's success and launched Annihilator Cup 2022. The list of contenders is quite impressive: AT&T has brought together 20 famous streamers, pros, and content creators, like a shroudbnansLuluLuvelyLIRIK, and many others.

Similar to its predecessor, Annihilator Cup 2022 was represented in a form of competition across 5 different titles. During five weeks, participants competed in Apex Legends, Dead by Daylight, Street Fighter V, Halo Infinite, and CS:GO, respectively. Each contest got its own winner. The participant who was the most consistent across the five weeks was crowned as champion of the tournament and took the main prize – $125K.

The winner of the first week's game – Apex Legends – could be easily guessed. Nokokopuffs, who is a former Apex pro player and now streamer for TSM, managed to outperform every other contender in this discipline. IRL-streamer JakenbakeLIVE was the best in surviving in Dead by Daylight. Doublelift, who is known as one of the most prominent League of Legends player in the NA pro-scene, proved to be the most capable player in the Street Fighter V tournament.

Tommey, a Call of Duty veteran, was the most efficient player in Halo Infinite. He also led his team to victory in CS:GO competition, which made him MVP for the second week in a row. However, it didn`t help him during the chase for the champion`s crown. Jakenbake won the AT&T Annihilator Cup 2022, thus he became two-times champion of this tournament.

Viewership statistics of AT&T Annihilator Cup 2022

All weekly competitions were very entertaining and intense, but some titles generated more interest than others. CS:GO competition was the most popular event in terms of Hours Watched – 574K. As well as in terms of Peak Viewers – shroud`s team match amassed 164K viewers simultaneously.

Apex Legends competition put together a little bit less – 515K Hours Watched and 163K viewers on the peak. Halo Infinite closes in with 485K Hours Watched, which is 16% less than CS:GO tournament. Although, Dead by Daylight showed the smallest amount of Hours Watched – 435K, but still managed to get the third highest peak viewership across all Annihilator Cup 2022 tournaments – 142K spectators at one time.

Comparison with Annihilator Cup 2021

The inaugural tournament last year set a pretty high bar, so it was a real question: Can the Annihilator Cup 2022 match its predecessor? Especially after the slight change in the list of titles. For example, the overhyped Among Us was replaced with more hardcore, survival horror Dead by Daylight, and the world-known franchise Mortal Combat was substituted by Street Fighter V, which is popular predominately in NA.

It turned out that the 2022 Cup not only matched but also overcame the previous tournament of this series. CS:GO tournament of 2021 picked up 469K Hours Watched and reached 147K viewers at its maximum. It is 18% less in terms of Hours Watched than this year. Halo: Infinite gathered a smaller amount of Hours Watched as well – 406K, which is 16% less than this year's tournament. Apex Legends competition results on Annihilator Cup 2021 were not as good as this year – only 370K Hours Watched. It is 28% less than in the Annihilator Cup 2022.

Overall, it can be said that AT&T set a promising trend in the esports entertainment sphere, as it grows and becomes more and more significant audience, so it is very likely that we will see new tournaments from AT&T.
