How Spanish-speaking streamers are taking over Twitch

How Spanish-speaking streamers are taking over Twitch
Share:

Twitch is the biggest streaming platform in the world and has some of the biggest names in all of the streaming industry like pokimane, xQc, HasanAbi, and many others. However, recently we have seen a new wave forming in the platform. That is the Spanish wave, that caught Twitch and some of its users by surprise, as some of the biggest Spanish content creators become more and more influential on the platform, and crushing viewership records left and right.

First, to understand this phenomenon, we need to understand why Spanish-speaking creators rise to fame very quickly compared to creators from other languages, such as English or even Portuguese.

Well, Spanish is the fourth most spoken language in the world with 534 million speakers around the globe. This means they have a big public to which they can appeal. Another factor that plays into this is that Spanish people, in general, prefer to watch Spanish-speaking content over English content. Meaning the majority of Spanish speakers will watch Spanish-speaking creators, which helps the creators a lot since they almost have an unlimited amount of fans they can attract to their streams, and don't need to "fight" with thousands of creators for the English-speaking public since some of the viewer base of the major English names in the platform overlap.

Spanish Speaking streamers in the list of the Biggest Twitch channels by Followers

Five of the top then most followed channels on Twitch are from Spanish-speaking streamers

The followers' count is one of the metrics you can use to measure the biggest streamers on the platform. Ninja is by far the most followed streamer on Twitch, but in the top three, we have two Spanish-speaking content creators. If you look a the top five we have three Spanish-speaking streamers, with ibai, who occupies the fourth place in the list, having recently broken the record for Peak Viewers with 3.3 million

In total, the top ten has five Spanish-speaking creators, which further proves that the Spanish-speaking creators are growing at an insane pace, and are on verge of taking over Twitch.

Spanish streamers have been able to achieve such a massive following due to their great streaming events, rich personalities, and knowing how to appeal to their public and what their public wants to see. You won't break the viewership record in Twitch by pure luck, and we have seen two Spanish-speaking streamers doing it. As I have mentioned before, ibai recently broke the Peak Viewers record, but before him, the record belonged to TheGrefg with 2.4 million Peak ViewersTheGrefg is also in the top ten list of followers, sitting in eighth place ahead of pokimane, and close to streamers like shroud and xQc

Another astonishing thing is the number of followers gained per day by some Hispanic streamers. ibai gains 11K followers per day, while auronplay and juansguarnizo gain 10K each.  Rubius gains 8K per day, while TheGrefg gains on average 6K new followers per day.

Spanish-speaking streamers average followers gain per day is among the highest on the platform, which is another metric that confirms how big Hispanic streamers are currently, and how important they are for Twitch. In the top ten list of the fastest-rising channels by followers gain per day, we have five Spanish-speaking streamers in the top ten.

Dominating the Average Viewers on Twitch

The majority of this list is composed of Spanish-speaking streamers with two of them occupying first and second place

It's not only in the most followed channels list that the Spanish-speaking creators show their dominance, but also in the list of the top Twitch channels when it comes to Average Viewers since the beginning of 2022.

As you can see the top two channels in Average Viewers are Spanish, ibai with 95K, and auronplay with 94K Average Viewers. What's amazing is that they have way fewer hours streamed than the third and fourth place, but there is a very big gap between the second place channel and the third one, with a difference of 21K Average Viewers, despite xQc streaming more than double the hours of auronplay, and also ibai.

What makes this feat even more impressive is that no matter what they are playing, if it's GTA V, Minecraft, or Just Chatting, these streamers will still have insane Average Viewers. Meaning they have a very big fan base, and that people watch them because they like their content, independently of what type of content they produce.

Overall in the top ten, we have five Spanish-speaking streamerswith the first and second place being occupied by the two biggest Spanish-speaking streamers right now.

It's safe to say that Spanish-speaking streamers are on the rise on Twitch, and have become some of the biggest streamers on the platform. With a loyal fan base, great ideas, and a great understanding of what their fan base wants, expect to continue seeing Spanish speakers streamers at the top of Twitch.

Most Popular Hispanic Streamers

I have talked a lot about how Hispanic streamers are taking over Twitch, but after all who are some of these streamers? Well, let's get to know some of them.

Ibai

Ibai is the biggest Spanish streamer on the platform currently. He first started as a League of Legends caster in the LVP, and then raise to fame on social media mainly on Twitter. He joined G2 Esports as a content creator in 2020 and since then has become one of the biggest streamers in the world.

He currently holds the Peak Viewers record of 3.3 million, and currently, he is the streamer with the biggest Average Viewers rate of 95K. In 2021 together with world-famous football player Gerard Piqué, they created KOI, an esports organization that is already one of the biggest in Europe.

Auronplay

Following him we have Auronplay. He started his YouTube career in 2009, still in the early days of the platform. He started making YouTube videos as a hobby but quickly grew to be the biggest Spanish creator on the platform, now the third biggest.

In 2020 he published his last YouTube video and decided to fully dedicate himself to Twitch. Since then he has become one of the biggest streamers on the platform. He has been the second most followed channel on Twitch since 2021, and in 2022 he is in second place on the biggest Average Viewers list of Twitch with 94K Average Viewers.

Rubius

The third biggest Spanish-Speaking streamer on the platform is Rubius . Just like auronplay, Rubius  also started on YouTube, and he did it in 2006. He gained a lot of popularity and despite having to create a new channel, his new channel quickly surpassed the number of followers he had in the first one. Rubius  continued to grow on YouTube and became one of the biggest creators in Spain.

In 2018 he switched to Twitch, and it did take long for him to leave his mark, as in March of the same year he broke the Twitch Peak Viewers record at the time which was held by Ninja. He is very close with Ibai, they worked together as content creators in G2 Esports and also lived together in a streamer's house after leaving G2 Esports. Until this day they are very good friends.

Upcoming Spanish-speaking creators

As mentioned before there are a lot of Hispanic streamers growing bigger day after day. We took a look at some of the aspiring Spanish-speaking streamers of Twitch who recently reached the 500K followers mark. Here is a list of some of them:

Despite these top streamers who are the pillars of the Hispanic streaming community on Twitch, we are seeing more and more up-and-coming Hispanic Twitch streamers.
