The Switch 2 Showcase has firmly secured its place as the most popular livestream event in Nintendo's history. Multiple regional company channels broke audience records, with the Japanese, American, and British channels leading the way. Notably, the Japanese channel peaked at over 3.1 million concurrent viewers, a remarkable threefold increase compared to the previous milestone.
As expected, Nintendo's main official YouTube channels attracted the largest audience. However, independent streamers and gaming media also played a significant role in reaching the event’s impressive peak of 6.3 million concurrent viewers. In total, nearly 1,200 channels streamed or co-streamed the showcase.
The Switch 2 Showcase was incredibly close to setting a new all-time audience record for similar showcases, not just in gaming, but across the entire tech industry. The showcase easily outperformed various presentations from tech giants like Apple and Samsung, only trailing behind the PlayStation 5 unveiling in September 2020.
Nintendo has set an incredibly high bar for gaming livestreams in 2025, with the Switch 2 showcase becoming the biggest event of its kind in both gaming and tech over the past five years. With 6.3 million concurrent viewers, the event shattered records and proved Nintendo’s dominance in the gaming news cycle. It’s a monumental achievement, and it’s hard to predict when we’ll see something of this scale again: perhaps only during the unveiling of PlayStation 6 or a new Xbox console in the future.
