Over the past yet, Spanish content reached a whole new level – they are opening their own communities, breaking records, and attracting more and more viewers. We analyzed the top 100 Spanish-speaking Twitch streamers for Q1 2021 to find such things as: how many Mexicans there are, how the indicators of female streamers have grown, and which games their viewers preferred.

Previously, we also analyzed the English-speaking and Portuguese-speaking streamers for Q1 2021.

Disclaimer: the analyzed rating was sorted by Hours Watched (hours that viewers spent watching streamers' broadcasts). Channels of studios or gaming communities were excluded.

Between January 1st and March 31st, viewers spent 295.6M Hours Watched on the broadcasts of the top 100 Spanish-speaking Twitch streamers. That's 48.5% of the total Hours Watched of all the Spanish-speaking streamers in Q1 and 4.8% of all Twitch Hours Watched.

The Spaniards composed most of the top 100 (67 people). Following them are the representatives of Argentina (14 streamers) and Mexico (10 streamers). The top 100 also includes two streamers each from Andorra, Peru, Chile, and one each from Colombia, the United States, and Guatemala. The Spaniards made the largest contribution with 213.2M Hours Watched (72.1%).

Compared to Q4, the hours watched of the top 100 Spanish-speaking streamers grew by 7.6%. At the same time, their air time remained practically unchanged. The number of girls in the top 100 has changed as well: their number grew from five in Q4 2020 to six in Q1 2021.

The 32-year-old Raul “auronplay” Genes became the most popular Spanish-speaking streamer by being responsible for 9.2% of all streaming Hours Watched in the top 100. The comparison of his figure with one from the same period in 2020 shows that his Hours Watched grew by almost 20 million. At the same time, he managed to return to the first spot among the Spanish-speaking streamers – the spot that was stolen from Genes by Ibai “ibai” Llanos in Q4 2020.

This time, Ibai himself took the second spot. In January 2021, he left the G2 Esports organization and founded his own streaming community on Twitch – which included Werlyb, IlloJuan, and others. Ibai’s Hours Watched accounted for 7.7% of all Hours Watched of the top 100 Spanish-speaking streamers.

The third spot went to David “TheGrefg” Martinez, whose Hours Watched accounted for 7.4% of the top 100 streamers of Q1 2021. On January 11, 2021, he set the absolute Twitch record for Peak Viewers – with 2,470,347 people watching the presentation of his Icon Series skin in Fortnite at the same time. For this achievement, the co-owner of Team Heretics was even included in the Guinness Book of Records.

Aroia “aroyitt” Garcia became the most watched Spanish-speaking female streamer; the content creator of MAD Lions generated 25% of the total indicator of all the girls in the top 100. Her performance has shown significant growth in January when Twitch was taken over by the Rust category. In Q1 2021, over 520K followers subscribed to aroyitt.

Mayichi occupied the second spot among the girls in the top 100 Spanish-speaking streamers. May's viewers have spent most of their time watching ARK: Survival Evolved and Rust, which have been particularly popular among Spanish-speaking audiences in recent months. Between January and March, Mayichi attracted 427K new followers.

The third spot was occupied by IamCristinini. In January, she joined the ibai streamer group, which helped her generate 3.35M Hours Watched in Q1 2021 and gain 436K new followers.

Rust became the most popular category among viewers of the top 100 Spanish-speaking streamers. Out of the top 100, 62 streamers broadcasted this game at least once between January and March, and viewers spent 73.3M hours watching Rust streams alone (which is 25% of all the Hours Watched of the top 100 streamers).

The game itself became the most popular one among the viewers of both male and female streamers from the top 100 Spanish-language. The viewers of male streamers also preferred Fortnite, Grand Theft Auto V, and League of Legends, while the audience of the female streamers had an extra preference for ARK: Survival Evolved, Gartic Phone, and Among Us.

That being said, it's important to note that the Hours Watched of the girls from the top 100 have grown almost by 51% compared to Q4 2020. Meanwhile, the growth in the case of guys is insignificant – only 5.9%.

As for the preferences of the streamers themselves, the guys have spent the most airtime in the Fortnite and Just Chatting categories, while the girls spent the most airtime in Just Chatting and Rust. Overall, when it comes to the top 100 streamers, the top categories by Airtime are pretty much a carbon copy of the top categories by Hours Watched.

To understand the level of overlap found among the audiences of the top Spanish-speaking content creators, we took the top 5 Spanish-speaking Twitch streamers for Q1 2021 and identified their audience overlap during that period.

As it can be seen from the graph below, the viewers of the top 5 tend to overlap to a rather high degree: for example, in the period from January to March 2021, 57.3% of viewers of ibai also watched auronplay, 54.9% of viewers of Rubius also watched ibai, and 50.8% of viewers of juansguarnizo also watched TheGrefg.

Note: the rows indicate the % of that channel’s audience that watch other channels’ streams, and the columns indicate the % of that channel’s audience collected from other channels.

As we have noted, the top 100 Spanish-speaking content creators on Twitch account for half of all the Spanish language Hours Watched generated on the platform. At the same time (unlike Portuguese-speaking streamers) their Hours Watched show continuous, albeit slight, growth from quarter to quarter (compared to Q4, the hours watched grew by 7.6%).
