The second quarter has come to an end, and it is time to summarize the results of the platform’s last three months. In our new report, Streams Charts will highlight the platform’s most popular categories and streamers from April to June 2021.
Most popular Twitch categories in Q2 2021
The most viewed category in Q2, 2021 was Just Chatting with 824M Hours Watched. Compared to Q1, this is an increase of 69M, i.e. 9%. The category’s maximum Peak Viewers indicator over the last three months is equal to 1.03M – but this indicator is not the highest in the ranking.
Pool streams are one of the reasons for the increased focus on Twitch’s "Chatting" category. Over the past three months, many streamers have started broadcasting out of various bodies of water, which has become a kind of trend on the platform and caused a lot of controversy among the community.

Grand Theft Auto V moved one position up since Q1, its Hours Watched having increased by as much as 67%. Viewers dedicate their time to this category primarily because of the adventures of streamers on the Role Play servers, where they roleplay various social roles and invent their characters’ lives. Recently, GTA V has been compete with Just Chatting, but so far the game hasn't managed to get ahead of its competitor.
League of Legends moved down one spot, although the category did manage to increase its Hours Watched by 20.7%. Over the past three months, the discipline had many esports competitions dedicated to it (for example, LEC Spring 2021 and MSI 2021) – something that directly influenced the statistics. The game has one of the highest Peak Viewers indicators, reaching the mark of 1.2M Peak Viewers on the last day of the Mid-Season Invitational 2021.
Call of Duty: Warzone occupied the fourth spot in the ranking. In three months, the category increased its Hours Watched by 15% and moved up three spots. Warzone has the largest number of channels broadcasting the game at the same time - 22.6K. Additionally, on April 21st, the game was watched by 1.6M Peak Viewers. This is the ranking’s best Peak Viewers result and a record for the discipline itself. The same day was marked with the start of the game’s new season and an addition of a new map.
VALORANT took the fifth spot. The game moved up three spots, and its Hours Watched increased by 25%. The VCT Masters esports competition has been streamed by many of the community casters, which has helped Riot Games improve its performance.
Fortnite lost two spots in Q2 2021, with the game’s Hours Watched dropping by 21%. When it comes to Q1, the launch of the sixth season and the release of a skin for the famous Spanish streamer TheGrefg caused much hype among the community. Meanwhile, the Q2 was marked only by the launch of the seventh season – which was not all that effective, considering that the launch took place in early June.
In Q2, Minecraft lost 9% of its Hours Watched, as well as moved down one spot in the ranking. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive remained in the eighth spot with approximately the same results as in Q1.
Apex Legends returned to the ranking by moving from the 11th spot in Q1 to the 9th spot in Q2. During this, Hours Watched increased by 11.8%. Dota 2 faced a similar outcome, increasing its Hours Watched by 35.6% thanks to regional qualifiers for The International 10, and was able to return to the top.
Most popular streamers in Q2 2021
Felix “xQcOW” Lengyel continues to hold the platform’s top spot. As such, the only streamer he managed to overtake in Q2 was himself – compared to Q1, his Hours Watched grew by 21% over 988 hours of airtime. During this period, Felix devoted himself entirely to Grand Theft Auto V. This category accounted for 67% of his total Hours Watched.
Similarly to Q1, the second spot goes to Alexandre “Gaules” Borba. Over the past three months, Alexandre was doing his usual broadcasting of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive esports competitions, for example, IEM Cologne 2021. This allowed him to stay on the air the longest (2.1K hours total, including reruns) – therefore increasing his Hours Watched by 20%.
The Spanish streamer Auronplay moved up three spots in Q2 2021. He was on air 61 hours longer and improved his Hours Watched by 15%. He also broadcasted GTA V most of Q2 – and the title was responsible for 65.4% of his total Hours Watched.
Summit1G moved down one spot in Q2. Despite streaming 91 hours more, his Hours Watched increased by only 2M.
RanbooLive moved up from 11th to 5th spot, with his Hours Watched increasing by 30%. When it comes to gaming, Minecraft was responsible for 65% of the streamer's total Hours Watched.
Ibai set a personal Peak Viewers record this month, with 1.5M people simultaneously watching the broadcast of LA VELADA DEL AÑO, a boxing match between popular cyberathletes ELMILLOR and REVEN. Ibai himself promised to enter the ring next year, although his opponent is not yet known. The event allowed Ibay Llanos to move up three spots in the ranking by Hours Watched, as well as to take the first spot in the Peak Viewers top for Q2 2021.

This quarter, NICKMERCS hasn't switched away from his favorite game, Call of Duty: Warzone. In Q2 he has been streaming 15 hours longer, allowing him to move up one spot in the ranking.
Another newcomer to the top is loud_coringa. Victor Augusto specializes in GTA V, with this game accounting for 89% of his Hours Watched over three months. Compared to Q1, Victor's Hours Watched increased by 12%.
loltyler1 moved up from 14th to 9th spot in the rankings, his Hours Watched growing by 12%. Tyler has completely immersed himself into the League of Legends discipline and so this game contributed 96% of his total Hours Watched. At the same time, Tyler's peak category is a different one, given that he collected 96K Peak Viewers on the broadcast dedicated to his sports exercises.
Closing our top is juansguarnizo with 23.2M Hours Watched. Compared to Q1, Juan managed to move up six spots in the ranking, increasing his Hours Watched by 34%. His main category is also GTA V, which accounts for 53% of his total Hours Watched. It should be noted that no streamers out of the top 10 featured “Chatting” as their main category – despite it collecting the most Hours Watched in the overall top.
