Hot Tubs, Pools & Beaches is a new category on Twitch that has united all fans of sitting in a hot tub on the stream. Our analytical agency will tell you about the reasons for the separation of the section, the most popular streamers and the inconsistency of the situation on Twitch.
How did Hot Tub meta start?
A couple of months ago, there was a sharp spike in pool streaming on Twitch. Such streamers as Amouranth, Faith and GloriaMatvien did not get out of the hot tub for more than a month and gathered quite a lot of viewers on the broadcasts. We told you more about their statistics in another article.
Pool streams obviously involve wearing swimsuits, which is why many content makers have taken advantage of this Twitch exception to attract an audience. The reaction of the community was not long in coming, as both viewers and streamers began to express their dissatisfaction with the explicit content on Twitch in the Just Chatting category. On the other hand, Amouranth mentioned above noted that restrictions will not be introduced until such streams begin to scare away advertisers.
At first, Twitch advised to simply hide unwanted content from one's feed, but this did not really help the situation, and the community's hate did not subside.
On May 21, a new category, Hot Tubs, Pools & Beaches, where streams near swimming pools, in Jacuzzis, and other Hot Tub broadcasts were forcibly moved, was launched. We collected the category results four weeks after its launch on Twitch.
The results of Hot Tubs' first week on the platform
The day of the launch of the section brought the best result — 616K Hours Watched and 55.9K Peak Viewers. During the week, the dynamics of views did not drop much and in just the first 7 days it got 3.2M Hours Watched. The maximum in the category was 268 channels streaming simultaneously.
This kind of content was originally streamed in the Just Chatting category, so after a certain amount of time we will find out if the pool separation affected Just Chatting or is it just a temporary phenomenon.
Hot Tubs after a month on Twitch
As for the dynamics by week, Hours Watched of the third week fell by 37% compared to the first week. But the peak of the audience has doubled. A big contribution to this was made by Ibai, who on June 5 held a stream in the pool with friends.
As for the audience of hot tub streams, 89% of Hours Watched in four weeks belong to English-speaking viewers. Spaniards made up 4.2%, and the rest belongs to other languages. In the fourth week, Hours Watched fell by 23% compared to the third week and decreased 2x compared to Week 1.
Most Popular Hot Tubs, Pools & Beaches Streamers
The absolute leader of the category in terms of Hours Watched was Kaitlyn "Amouranth" Siragusa. The girl was the first even when the streams in the pool were related to Just Chatting. In four weeks of streaming, she collected 2M Hours Watched. She also has the largest number of viewers on average — 12K people.
Indiefoxx, Faith and Taylor_Jevaux have remained in the top since the days of Just Chatting. Separately, we note the MarineMammalRescue channel — this is a stream from the reserve with fur seals. The creators of the channel take care and treat sick animals, and the stream itself is led by volunteers from all over the world.
The most popular clip with fur seals in the last month
The appearance of a separate category for swimming pools has brought enough entertaining and funny content. Many men began to parody this phenomenon, put on swimsuits and chatted in the pool with the audience.
Therefore, there are quite a lot of guys in the top of the peak audience. All of them entertained the viewers on their broadcasts, and the Ibai stream attracted 89K people.
Not without a streamer drama. A week before the launch of the category, Twitch removed monetization from the Amouranth channel. The reasons for this decision were not named, but the girl shared this news on her Twitter, and then discussed this topic on her channel. The catch is that Twitch did it without warning or explanation, so it turned into a small scandal on the platform. After almost two weeks, Twitch returned monetization to the streamer.
How do viewers react on the streams?
We analyzed the chats of Amouranth, Indiefoxx, Faith, GloriaMatvien, and evaanna to determine how viewers behave in the chat. Twitch-emoticon "Kreygasm" became the most popular message in the chats of girls by use — it was used 488K times in four weeks.
In second place is the purple heart of Twitch — 161K uses. The third position was taken by the emoticon "Resident Sleeper" — 145K uses.
How much did the popular Hot Tub streamers earn?
Let's see how many people subscribed to Amouranth's channel. From May 21 to June 21, 5K new users subscribed to Amouranth, 1.6K renewed their subscriptions, and 12K subscriptions were donated. This means that Kaitlyn Siragusa in just four weeks earned about 74K dollars (excluding Prime subscriptions), some of which will go to the platform as a commission (usually Twitch gets 50%).
Now Hot Tub is gradually fading into the background. Viewers are increasingly moving to the ASMR category due to the new trend. Streamers lick a special microphone while lying on the couch. Let's see if such content will revive the category and whether ASMR will overtake pool streams.
