A new indie survival game called Valheim sold one million copies in a week. A mark of 258K peak online players was reached. Was it fun for players to watch the survival of streamers on Twitch? The new article from Streams Charts reveals how the players reacted to the new survival game as well as what happened to the statistics.
Valheim is a new survival game from a young studio Iron Gate. The game grants you the opportunity to try yourself in the role of a Viking, with survival in the wild being the main task. The game stands out with its style, simplified (but colorful) graphics, and a huge game world.
The game was released in Early Access on February 2nd, immediately making the players hooked on its colorful world, hunting, construction, magic, and sacrifices. Given the amount of content, the game has something to offer to everyone. Moreover, the game offers players the choice between male and female characters. One can also call his friends to join for even more excitement, given the immediate availability of co-op mode.
The game sold 1 million copies in a week and reached a 10/10 Steam rank with 23 thousand player reviews. However, how well did it fare in terms of streaming?
On the day of the release, the game did not particularly attract viewers’ attention, but starting from the second day, the popular streamers (such as Hanryang1125, Alanzoka, and Gronkh) started trying their hand at the game. CohhCarnage started streaming the game from the fifth day onwards and remained in the lead until February 10th, when his spot was taken by Sykkuno. The peak viewers indicator reached 127K and was achieved on the seventh day after the release, while the eighth day featured such milestones as the peak hours watched (1.3M) as well as 56K average viewers.
Looking at the audience, we can see that its English-speaking segment is ahead of others, being responsible for 47% of the hours watched. Following it are the Chinese-speaking viewers with 13%.
Who became the most popular Valheim streamer?
Ben “CohhCarnage” Cassel became the most popular streamer of the new survival game. He devoted 50 hours of airtime to the game and reached the mark of 683K hours watched. He was also watched by 20K peak viewers.
The second spot was taken by the German streamer Gronkh, although the gap between him and the leader was 57% because Gronkh streamed 33 hours less. Two Chinese streamers (Mobilmobil and Uzra) also made it to the top, despite it not usually featuring the Chinese content creators. The fourth spot was taken by the Brazilian streamer Alanzoka with 252K hours watched.
As for the most popular streamers based on the peak viewers indicator, the situation changes slightly. The survival process of streamer Sykkuno was watched by the highest number of people – 37.7K viewers in just three hours of streaming. By the way, Thomas has reached this mark only on the tenth day after the release.
Alanzoka fell only 1.3K viewers short from reaching the first spot. Although LIRIK was on the air for less than two hours, he still managed to take the third spot by gathering 28.4K viewers. The fourth spot went to KendineMuzisyen, a Turkish actor and popular streamer. His streams helped him collect a total of 28.2K viewers.
Valheim is the most successful release in recent memory
Although boasting the highest viewership so far, Valheim is not the only notable release of 2021. We have compared the performance of Valheim with that of the recently released Hitman 3 and the horror game The Medium. The graph clearly demonstrates how the games follow two typical scenarios.
Hitman 3 and The Medium were hyped up prior to release, so at first, everyone was interested to check the new games out. Starting from the day of release, The Medium only ever showed deterioration of its indicators – while Hitman 3 had its spotlight on the fifth day after release since many famous personalities like CohhCarnage, LIRIK, and HasanAbi were streaming the game that day.
The situation with Valheim is completely opposite - no one was quite aware about the game before the release, which led to the game’s initially relatively low results at the start. However, the game became popular due to the huge number of positive reviews generated by the community, and therefore many Twitch stars decided to play it.
Will Valheim be able to keep its viewers and enter the top 10 Twitch categories of the month? We will find this out in our next monthly report. Subscribe to our social networks to avoid missing any relevant statistics on streaming and esports.
