The Galactus Event in Fortnite was held on December 1. It became one of the most large-scale events in the battle royale's history by the number of players. It has also managed to break Twitch itself. The players entered the streaming platform because of an in-game bug with a black screen, which is why one of the streamers set a new Twitch record for Peak Viewers. Let's see what happened.
What is the Galactus event?
The Galactus Event became an epic end to Fortnite Season 4 and the Nexus War, which was a part of a collaboration with Marvel. The event itself resembled the in-game Travis Scott concert in April in its scale. But this time, the devs allowed participants to interact with things during the event. 12,3M people visited the musical performance in Fortnite while the battle against Galactus collected 3M more — a record-breaking 15,3M people.
3,4M fans watched the event on Twitch and YouTube. A huge part of that number belongs to one content-maker from Spain, which has set a new Twitch record for Peak Viewers among streamers.
Who is the owner of this new record?
David "TheGrefg" Canovas has set a new record for Peak Viewers among Twitch streamers. He has reached 660K Peak Viewers on his broadcast of the Galactus Event. 83K new people subscribed to his channel, which gained 1,5M views in only 4 hours of the stream. Such hype around the event has caused a short Twitch shutdown. The platform itself even joked that Canovas owes the platform a few new servers. Detailed stats of the broadcast you can find here.
Tyler "Ninja" Blevins is the owner of the previous Twitch record among streamers. 633K people watched the Vegas battle of Ninja against fans and top Fortnite players in April 2018. A month earlier, in March 2018, he hosted a Fortnite broadcast with American rappers, Drake and Travis Scott, which gathered 616K viewers at its peak.
Interestingly, in May, TheGrefg almost managed to beat the Ninja's record. During his charity marathon, he gathered more than 558K Peak Viewers.
American politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took 5th place on our list. On October 21, the U.S. Representative for New York's 14th congressional district launched her first Twitch broadcast and played Among Us together with famous streamers. As a result, more than 438K viewers simultaneously watched her stream.
What's next?
The Galactus Event became a so-called bait for Fortnite viewers and fans. Epic Games announced that this is only a small part of the events that await us in the fifth season of the game. Who knows, maybe at the end of the season, we'll see another world record?
