A list of participants in SquidCraft 2, the second Minecraft event based on the popular Netflix series "Squid Game", was officially announced on February 21. Last year's tournament drew millions of viewers and set several Twitch records at once, but the new event is expected to be even bigger and more interesting. Streams Charts tells you why you shouldn't miss it.
SquidCraft 2 has been the subject of rumors since the beginning of February 2023, but the official announcement of the Minecraft event was made only recently. The new event will be held from February 28 to March 5, and will again offer a chance to win $100K. This time the organizers didn't limit themselves to content creators from Spain but invited top foreign streamers. As a result, the list of participants was expanded to 200 players.
On a recent stream, Rubius made an announcement of all the SquidCraft 2 participants. Among the invited guests are such stars as xQc, Amouranth, Tfue, Pokimane, Dream, Moistcritikal, and even former Argentine football player Sergio Agüero. Top Spanish streamers are also on the list: ibai, Auronplay, juansguarnizo, Rivers_gg, IlloJuan, elxokas, Rubius and others.
Rubius' broadcast announcing the SquidCraft 2 participants lasted less than two hours, but in that time it accumulated 522.7K Hours Watched and drew over 361K Peak Viewers. It was the second-highest result of Rubius' career. His stream also ranked second among all the broadcasts that ran during the week, second only to the Kingsleague media football league.
Thousands of viewers watched the Rubius stream with the announcement
Last year's SquidCraft was held on January 19-24, 2022, with 150 content creators from Spain competing in elimination minigames on a special map in Minecraft until there was only one winner. Contestants actively streamed on their channels, as well as raided and hosted other players' channels. As a result, the first SquidCraft became Twitch Rivals' most popular entertainment event, racking up 17.5 million Hours Watched and over 2.2 million Peak Viewers. Many streamers then set personal records for the number of viewers on their channels. For example, the Spanish streamer elxokas reached a record 1.2 million Peak Viewers on the broadcast (at that time it was the third result in the history of the platform). OllieGamerz became the winner — he defeated all rivals and received a prize of $100K.
The first SquidCraft has become the most popular event in Twitch Rivals history, as well as the most popular Minecraft tournament show. However, considering the all-star lineup of SquidCraft 2, these records can be broken in the near future.
