SquidCraft 2: changes to the series promise to make the record-breaking event even more exciting

The second edition of one of the most hyped events was finally announced. SquidCraft 2 will start on the 28th of February and will end on the 5th of March, with the competition having 200 participants battling for a $100K prize pool. Before the tournament, according to Spanish news outlet Marca, an in-person event will take place in Barcelona, on the 12th of February, where the format of the competition and its 200 participants will be revealed. Auronplay, Rubius, and Komanche, who are responsible for the event, will host the opening ceremony in Barcelona, explaining to the viewers everything they need to know about the tournament.

The first edition of SquidCraft was a huge success. It brought together the biggest Spanish-speaking creators of Twitch, and became the most popular event in the history of Twitch Rivals. The creators battled each other in a version of Squid Game but in Minecraft. They played a series of mini-games, like the ones present in the Squid Games series, with the last participant standing winning the event. After being one of the most successful streamer events of all time, it comes as a little surprise to see the tournament comeback this year, with the goal to shatter more records, and entertain thousands of viewers.

While only Spanish-speaking creators participated in the first edition of the event, there have been rumors that international Twitch stars such as xQc or Amouranth will attend this year’s edition. As mentioned above, the format still hasn't been revealed, but it’s expected to be similar to the one of SquidCraft.

SquidCraft is the most popular Twitch Rivals and Minecraft event of all time

SquidCraft was a huge viewership success, with the event reaching a wide audience, and shattering records. Inspired by Netflix's hit TV series Squid Game, it attracted the interest of thousands of viewers, who were excited to see their favorite content creators compete in the Minecraft version of the deadly mini-games portrayed in the series. SquidCraft also helped many streamers set new personal viewership records, such as elxokas, who reached the final and had 1.2 million simultaneous viewers tune into his stream. With all the streamers in the event broadcasting the competition, it offered fans different viewing experiences, and the chance to live the game through their favorite creators.

The first edition of SquidCraft completely obliterated the previous Twitch Rivals viewership record, with an astonishing 226% more PV. With 17.7 million Hours Watched, the series also set a new record in that metric, having 11 million HW more than Twitch Rivals Valorant, which occupies the second place in the list. It’s also the biggest Minecraft tournament of all time. When compared to Minecraft Live 2022, which was broadcasted on YouTube, and brought fans news about the upcoming Minecraft updates, SquidCraft still had more than 1 million PV. These numbers prove that SquidCraft was a truly historic event that did a great job of retaining the viewers' attention, and leaving them glued to their screens.

If the second edition ends up having international Twitch streaming stars as it's been rumored, it will help the event reach an even larger audience. Since SquidCraft consisted only of Spanish-speaking streamers and was able to reach historic viewership numbers, with some of the top English-speaking streamers, we can potentially see SquidCraft 2 become the biggest streaming event of all time.
