State of Play September 2026 nears 1M Peak Viewers as Sony showcases Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Metro 2039

Sony held its latest State of Play presentation on September 3, immediately followed by a special State of Play Japan broadcast. Across the two shows, the company featured more than 30 games from PlayStation Studios and third-party developers around the world. 

The State of Play September 3 presentation was covered by Sony’s official livestreaming channels as well as numerous Twitch and YouTube creators. Over two hours, the broadcasts generated more than 1.6 million Hours Watched and reached 982.4K Peak Viewers, according to Streams Charts. 

The official PlayStation YouTube channel was the most popular channel covering the presentation, reaching more than 304.5K Peak Viewers. British streamer Marc “Caedrel” Lamont was the event’s leading community caster, and his channel also ranked first on Twitch.

This was Sony’s third major presentation of 2026, following earlier State of Play broadcasts in February and June. The summer showcase became the most popular event in the series’ history, driven by several major announcements and trailers, including Marvel’s Wolverine, Silent Hill: Townfall, Control Resonant, and God of War: Laufey. Biggest announcements from State of Play 2026 

State of Play presentations give players an opportunity to discover upcoming additions to the PlayStation ecosystem, watch new trailers and gameplay footage, and learn the confirmed release dates of highly anticipated titles. The biggest highlights of the September showcase included Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Metro 2039, and Until Dawn 2. 

Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is an action RPG developed by Square Enix and the concluding chapter of the acclaimed Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. The game continues the story of Cloud and his allies as they approach their final confrontation with Sephiroth.

The developers promise a significantly expanded open world, travel aboard the Highwind airship, an upgraded combat system, and the ability to switch between characters while exploring. The game will be released for PlayStation 5 on April 8, 2027. 

Metro 2039

Metro 2039 is a story-driven post-apocalyptic first-person shooter developed by 4A Games. The new protagonist is the mysterious Stranger, a former Spartan soldier who returns to the ruins of Moscow and becomes embroiled in a conflict over the future of the Metro.

The game will combine gunplay, stealth, exploration, and survival mechanics, including the need to monitor radiation levels and manage equipment. Metro 2039 will launch on February 4, 2027. 

Until Dawn 2

Until Dawn 2 is an interactive horror game developed by Firesprite, with its story created in collaboration with Dispatch developer AdHoc Studio. The game follows the crew of a paranormal investigation show whose exploration of Blackwood Sanatorium leads them to the abandoned Akishima Island, where they encounter an ancient threat.

As in the original game, players’ decisions will shape the story and determine which characters survive. Until Dawn 2 will be released for PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027. 

The presentation also featured the final trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, expansions and major updates for Monster Hunter Wilds, Crimson Desert, and Ghost of Yōtei, as well as the announcement of Maneater 2.

Viewers also saw new games such as Rhapsody in Scarlet, Hunter’s Moon, Uncanyon, and Where the Seeds Fall, alongside the Spec IV update for Gran Turismo 7 and a collectible LEGO set based on the original PlayStation console. In total, the two broadcasts covered more than 30 projects, ranging from major upcoming releases to indie games and new additions to the PlayStation Plus catalog.
