On November 14, Call of Duty: Warzone received a major update to coincide with the release of CoD: Black Ops 6. The developers launched Warzone Season 1, which introduced a new map, Area 99, along with new weapon loadouts, a battle pass, and a host of changes to the shooting mechanics, among other updates. The release of the massive update gave a huge boost to the Call of Duty: Warzone category on Twitch — on launch day, the average viewership for the category surged by an incredible 358%, reaching highest-ever in 2024.
On the day Warzone Season 1 dropped, the Average Viewers in the Call of Duty: Warzone section on Twitch skyrocketed by 4.5 times. At the same time, peak viewership jumped from 22.5K to 176.2K — nearly an 8x increase. Within just 24 hours, the Call of Duty: Warzone category shot up from 23rd place to 6th in Twitch’s most popular categories.
Dynamics of the Call of Duty: Warzone section on Twitch in 2024
The release of Warzone Season 1 helped the game’s Twitch section hit its highest daily average viewership of 2024, with over 85K concurrent viewers. Another milestone was set for the Average Channels streaming per day, which reached 6.4K, also the best of the year. However, the game wasn’t able to break its records for Peak Viewers or Peak Channel: those still stand from the World Series of Warzone finals and the launch of Season 3 in Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone.
Most watched categories on Twitch
The rapid growth of the Call of Duty: Warzone section on Twitch can be attributed to a few key factors. First, the release of the largest patch in years became a major event and sparked excitement in the community. Second, the launch of Warzone Season 1 is offering Twitch Drops: viewers can earn skins and other cosmetic rewards by watching game streams through December 12 (the longer you watch, the more rewards you unlock).
Most popular CoD: Warzone streamers
Another key factor in Warzone Season 1’s success was the return of many top streamers to the game. Big names like Scump, Shroud, Jynxzi, Swagg, and other content creators, mostly from the United States, streamed the game. Many also kicked off challenges and marathons in celebration of the Warzone Season 1 update.
In the coming days, it will be clear whether the launch of Warzone Season 1 will help set new viewership records for the game on Twitch. So far, January has been the game's most successful month of 2024, with streams generating over 41.8 million Hours Watched. As for peak viewership, September still holds the record, with 244.1K viewers during the World Series of Warzone finals.
