Between its full launch on May 12 and May 14, Directive 8020 outdid legacy Twitch games like Fortnite and Rust by peaking at 145,000 concurrent viewers.

How popular is Directive 8020?

The game reached 145,209 Peak Viewers (PV) on its launch day on Twitch, backed by positive reviews from most media outlets. The title thus became one of the most popular non-IRL categories between May 12 and 14, putting it above popular games like Fortnite, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege and Rust.
This peak viewership figure also put it among the most popular video releases for the first half of the year. Another release from this week, Subnautica 2, made it to the top five of this leaderboard.
It has also accrued over 2.2 million Hours Watched (HW) for the first three days of its full launch on the purple platform. While this is not as high as the performance of Subnautica 2, it is still impressive for a new offering in a genre that often produces more misses than hits.
Who were the top Directive 8020 streamers?
Between May 12 and 14, prominent streamers like Gianmarco "Tumblurr" Tocco, Elias "Elajjaz" Lönn and Rafael "Cellbit" Lange have put considerable time into the game. However, it was Jesse "MOONMOON" Anime who topped the watch time charts, accumulating almost 1 million HW in this period.

Tumblurr was by far the most popular Twitch content creator to livestream Directive 8020 over the three days. He hit a peak of 37,105 live viewers, around double the concurrent viewership numbers put up by any other streamer during this time.
Interestingly, Kamel "Kamet0" Kebir, normally popular for his esports livestreams, was the second-most popular influencer to broadcast Directive 8020. His decision to play the new release despite a packed schedule, including coverage of his own team, Karmine Corp’s matches, says a lot about how successfully the game positioned itself.
Most media outlet scores for Directive 8020 have averaged to about eight out ot ten, signalling a good start to life for Supermassive Games. However, whether it can maintain enough activity to finish among the year's top video game releases remains to be seen.
