Esports Awards 2022 results — how many viewers watched the event?

Esports Awards 2022 results — how many viewers watched the event?
Share:

The annual Esports Awards ceremony was held on December 13 in Las Vegas. It acknowledged the achievements of participants in the esports industry in 2022 — from professional players and teams to publishers, tournament operators and content creators. The Esports Charts editorial staff has calculated how many viewers watched the ceremony live.

Esports Awards uses combined voting to determine the winners. In some categories, it is carried out by a special jury, which includes well-known representatives of the industry — the owners of organizations, company executives, professional players, etc. In other categories, the winners are determined directly by the audience.

All the Esports Awards nominations are divided into several types: esports, broadcast, gaming, etc. Every year the organizers also present new members of the esports hall of fame (Lifetime Achievement Class of 2022) — it includes people who have made an invaluable contribution to the development of the industry. In 2022, this list was joined by Dennis 'Thresh' Fong (one of the first esports champions), Jason Lake (head of Complexity Gaming), Emil 'HeatoN' Christensen (former e-sportsman and founder of Ninjas in Pyjamas), Alexander Garfield (former head of Evil Geniuses), and others.

Ceremony Results

OpTic Gaming became the Esports Organization of the Year according to Esports Awards, and the LOUD team (Valorant), which won the World Championship in Istanbul in September, was awarded Esports Team of the Year.

Oleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyliev, the Ukrainian CS:GO player from Natus Vincere, was named the Esports PC Player of the Year, and his coach Andrii ‘B1ad3’ Horodenskyi was named the Esports Coach of the Year. Ilya ‘m0NESY’ Osipov from Russia, the G2 Esports CS:GO player, was named the Esports PC Rookie of the Year.

Valorant, the team shooter by Riot Games, won the Esports Game of the Year nomination. PUBG Mobile, the “battle royale”, became the Esports Mobile Game of the Year. The Spanish streamer Ibai ‘Ibai’ Llanos became the Streamer of the Year according to Esports Awards 2022. However, Juan ‘Hungrybox’ Debiedma won the Esports Content Creator of the Year nomination.

Viewership Statistics

Most viewers watched the ceremony on the official English-language Esports Awards channel on Twitch — it amassed 87.7K Hours Watched and drew 32.2K Peak Viewers. The Mortal channel on YouTube, which was broadcast in Hindi, is the second most popular channel — it accumulated 34.7K HW and attracted 20.3K PV. The Brazilian streamer Gaules is also in the Top 3 most popular channels. He covered the ceremony for just over an hour before the start of the BLAST Premier World Final 2022.

The distribution by platform looks as follows: 69.6% on Twitch vs. 30.4% on YouTube. About 66.7% of viewers watched the English-language broadcast. Streams in Hindi and Portuguese were watched by 23.7% and 9.6% of viewers, respectively.

Comparison with Other Ceremonies

Esports Awards 2022 attracted far fewer viewers than Esports Awards 2021. Last year's event had eight times the Average Viewers (218K) and six times the Peak Viewers (312K). The reason for this difference is very simple: Esports Awards 2021 had a lot of community casting (22 channels) and was covered by the top Twitch streamers: ibai, xQc, gabepeixe and others. On the other hand, Esports Awards 2022 was covered only on seven channels without the participation of major streamers (except for a short broadcast by Gaules).

A few days earlier, The Games Awards 2022, one of the largest awards in the gaming and esports industry, which was attended by many prominent developers and celebrities, was held. Several millions of viewers watched the broadcast. Read more about the event results here.
