The Summer of festivities as part of the Esports World Cup 2024 came to a close with the official Closing Ceremony. The live event held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, celebrated the most successful players of the Summer, and handed out the series’ first ever Esports World Cup Club Champion trophy. Viewership for the ceremony was supported by an international line-up of streamers, who broadcasted the event from home. The event was supported by celebrity appearances too, with the likes of Steve Aoki, Kid Cudi, and more performing live on stage.
The first place in the Club Championship went to Team Falcons, who accumulated more than double the points of the next-most-successful team, and took home $7,000,000 of the total $20M available for the Club Championship. Team Liquid finished in second place, leading the way ahead of French organizations Team BDS and Team Vitality.
Team Falcons clinched their top spot thanks to winning the EWC’s Warzone and Free Fire events, as well as solid placements in many of the other events part of this Summer’s EWC. Team Liquid were the champions of the StarCraft II event, and Team BDS took first place in the Rainbow Six Siege and Rocket League events.
In total, the event lasted just over four hours, and was watched by 232.2K concurrent viewers at peak. The ceremony also recorded 97.9K Average Viewers, although viewership was largely focused on the tail-end of the night. For the final two hours of the broadcast, coverage of the ceremony maintained above 200,000 concurrent viewers, and in total, the event collected 424K Hours Watched.
Viewers for the night of August 25 largely came from Twitch, but there was also a good deal of support from Nimo TV, the international operation of Chinese livestreaming service Huya Live. The platform largely appeals to Asia and the MENA region, among which the EWC 2024 was highly popular. Other platforms, such as YouTube Live and TikTok, contributed thousands of viewers to the ceremony, but were not as popular as Twitch and Nimo TV.
In terms of the most popular channels to broadcast the ceremony, the official EWC Twitch channel was the most popular, with 52.5K Peak Viewers recorded. The official account was the most popular option for fans to watch the ceremony, although a majority of the night’s viewership came from third-party broadcasters.
Văn Tùng and Hà Tiều Phu were the most popular and only Nimo TV streamers to cover the event. The two are both League of Legends personalities for Vietnamese audiences, with Văn Tùng acting as a caster for the esports title, and Hà Tiều Phu having made the transition from player to streamer. Both of them previously streamed on Nimo, but have most recently been found on YouTube Live; they moved back to Nimo for their coverage of the Esports World Cup Closing Ceremony, and achieved their most popular streams on the platform to date.
Aside from these two, the most popular third-party broadcasters for the event reflected a North American audience. Streamers xQc and Nmplol were the most popular, with 28.7K PV and 19K PV, respectively, but many others also contributed to the event’s total 232.2K PV. Many other popular North American streaming personalities broadcasted the ceremony, such as LIRIK, Clix, shroud, and more. All of these North American streamers covering the event were sponsored by the EWC for their coverage, and featured either “#ad” or “#EWCPartner” in their stream title.
The Esports World Cup 2024 has come to a close, and enjoyed high viewership for these special events thanks to sponsoring various streaming personalities to support their events on their own channels. After one of esport’s largest Summers ever, the EWC promises to bring much more action and tournaments in the future.
