The 67th Eurovision Song Contest was held in Liverpool on May 13. Swedish singer Loreen, who performed with the song "Tattoo", won — she received 423 points from the jury and the audience in the final vote, beating the closest competitor by 29 points. Streams Charts has calculated how many viewers watched Eurovision 2023 on streaming platforms.
It is interesting that this is the second victory for Loreen in the competition — she already took first place in 2012, when she performed with the song "Euphoria". Thus, Loreen became the first female artist to win Eurovision twice. Among male singers, Johnny Logan from Ireland can boast such an achievement, having won the competition in 1980 and 1987.
The Eurovision Song Contests traditionally gather their main audience from TV broadcasts, but the organizers also broadcast the contest on streaming services. In total, the broadcasts of Eurovision 2023 accumulated 6.4 million Hours Watched. Of these, more than 93% were accumulated by broadcasts on YouTube. Streaming on TikTok accounted for almost the rest. We should note that the distribution by platform was identical last year.
In 2023, the Eurovision Song Contest was traditionally held in three stages — two qualifying semi-finals were held on May 9 and 11, and the final concert with the announcement of the results was on May 13. During the semi-finals, the Average Viewers number reached a mark of 385K. During the finals, this number increased almost 2.8-fold, to 1.09 million Average Viewers.
The difference in peak online viewing between the stages was also significant. While in the semi-finals this figure was 485 thousand people, during the final concert the number of one-time viewers on the broadcasts grew to 1.4 million people.
This year's contest in Liverpool showed good audience coverage, but it failed to surpass Eurovision 2022 by any of the main metrics. Last year's contest in Turin performed better in terms of total Hours Watched as well as Average and Peak Viewers at broadcasts. We should remind you that initially, Eurovision 2023 was scheduled to be held in Ukraine, as it was the Ukrainian hip-hop group Kalush Orchestra that won in Italy. However, due to the war and for security reasons, the UK was chosen as the venue for the contest.
