Gamescom returned for 2024 and once again kicked the festivities off with its Opening Night Live event. The event is one of the most-watched live presentations in the gaming industry, as many new games, sequels, and updates are teased throughout the night.
Gamescom: Opening Night Live 2024 was shorter than previous editions of the show, only lasting 2 hours and 20 minutes. Sniper Elite, Borderlands 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, a Persona 3 DLC, and much, much more were all part of this year’s opening night presentation show, which was once again hosted by Canadian games journalist Geoff Keighley.
The show for this year’s gamescom Opening Night Live managed to maintain an average viewership of 1.1M concurrent viewers throughout the presentation, and peaked at 1.26M Peak Viewers. These numbers reflect the concurrent viewership for the event, but throughout the entire presentation, millions of views were recorded across all livestreaming platforms. Last year’s ONL presentation at gamescom 2023 was able to reach a higher peak viewership, but the show was also an hour longer and did not manage to maintain 1M+ Average Viewers.
Year after year, gamescom continues to attract more fans, professionals, and industry moguls to its doors in Cologne. Last year, 320,000 attendees visited the event, and if the viewership of the ONL event is representative of the general interest in gamescom, this year’s 2024 convention might receive more interest than last year’s.
In total, the gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 show reached 2.57M Hours Watched, thanks to its coverage across more than 750 broadcasting channels. Hundreds and hundreds of gamers co-casted the show, giving their opinion and reaction on the new upcoming games and releases from the industry. Streams Charts has collected the viewership data for the most popular streams throughout presentation.
In first and second place, The Game Awards’ Twitch and YouTube Live channels were the most popular broadcasts of the event, having received 121.3K PV and 91.2K PV, respectively. This annual awards show of the video game industry is also produced and hosted by Geoff Keighley, whose connection to Opening Night Live helped these channels to become the most popular of the event.
Zackrawrr, otherwise known as Asmongold, was the most popular community creator to cover the event, with 74.4K Peak Viewers recorded. The community creator reached his peak viewership reacting to Diablo IV’s new expansion, Vessel of Hatred. Diablo IV was Zackrawrr’s third-most-watched category for the entirety of 2023, and the American streamer is clearly excited to jump back into the action of this action RPG.

Gamescom’s official Twitch channel was the fourth-most popular broadcast of the event, having reached 50.6K Peak Viewers. Viewership for this official channel was much more stable, as was the event’s overall viewership, with no specific announcement or game release standing out as more popular than the general announcements of the event.
Alanzoka of Brazil was the fifth-most popular broadcast, and the second-most popular community member of the broadcast. The Brazilian reached 46.5K Peak Viewers half-way through his broadcast of ONL, but his viewership remained high for his entire broadcast covering the night. Apart from these major broadcasts, gamescom’s Opening Night Live 2024 also received significant viewership from Spanish-speaking, German, and French audiences.
