TwitchCon San Diego gathered hundreds of content creators and fans, in a convention that was full of events and never had a dull moment. Fans could meet their favorite streamers in real life, take a picture with them, and participate in multiple games set up around the convention venue. Twitch also organized some big events where some of the biggest streamers on the platform battled each other, let’s take a look at those events.
As we can see TwitchCon San Diego had a lot of events from various different games that took place at the convention, with many of them having online qualifiers before TwitchCon, to see who would be able to reach the final stage of the event and play in front of a live crowd.
TwitchCon San Diego Ultimate Challenge Gauntlet was the most popular tournament of the event. Viewers watched it for 436K hours, with a peak viewership of 164K. During this event, the broadcast had 95K Average Viewers. It had 32 in the platform, such as xQc, Tfue, sodapoppin, and many others competing in duos in multiple IRL challenges, with the tournament having a $75K prize pool. In the final Tfue and SypherPK faced AverageJonas and britanni, in the last drop challenge. After a back-and-forth between the two teams, AverageJonas and britanni secured the win.
GeorgeNotFound was the most popular and most watched streamer of the event, despite being eliminated early in the tournament, with the official Twitch Rivals channel being second in both metrics. Nmplol was the third most popular and most watched channel. Curiously none of the streamers that made it to the final, were among the most popular or most watched channels list.
Apex Legends mode mash-up was the second most popular event of the convention. It was watched for 277K hours, with up to 124K simultaneous viewers gathering to watch the event. During its duration, it had 79K Average Viewers. 20 trios replete of the best Apex Legends streamers on the platform, like iiTzTimmy, TSM_ImperialHal , and others, competed in many different game modes, with each team gaining points depending on their place. In the end, the team who had accumulated more points throughout all the games would be crowned champions. The tournament had a prize pool of $200K and was very competitive until the end. The trio of professional Apex Legend players TSM_ImperialHal, Reedz_FPS, and sweetdreams put on an amazing performance in the last game, winning the game and the whole tournament.
When it comes to the most popular and most watched channels of the event, it’s the official Twitch Rivals broadcast that takes first place in both metrics. TSM_ImperialHal channel was second place in both metrics, with viewers choosing to watch the very talented player, as he was one of the favorites coming into the tournament. Aceu took third place in both metrics.
In third place, we have the Twitch Rivals Zero Build World Invitational. Viewers watched the Fortnite event for 342K hours, and it had 119K Peak Viewers. This tournament had many qualifiers prior to TwitchCon, in order to find all the participants that would be playing in the final stage of the event. Similar to the Apex Legends tournament, it had a prize pool of $200K and had some of the best Fortnite players in the world attending. Tfue and MOTOR were among the big names that played in the event.
Unfortunately, the event was surrounded by some controversy, as the winning team, which was composed of Latin American streamers Palermo, Fakkz_, and Itrol, wasn't able to attend TwitchCon San Diego, and played from their homes. With the tournament being a LAN event many fans didn’t like that decision, saying that everyone should be on an equal playing field.
Despite not winning the event, Tfue channel was the most popular of the tournament with 25K Peak Viewers, and the second most watched with 59K Hours Watched. Twitch Rivals official channel was the most watched, and the second most popular. Famous French Fortnite player Nikof was in third place by both metrics.
The remaining events were also very popular, with the Minecraft MOBA event being the fourth most popular. 40K simultaneous viewers came together to watch Minecraft be played in a very unique way, in a MOBA map, similar to League of Legends or Dota 2. The Ballon World Cup Qualifying event, which determined one person from Canada, and one from the United States to attend the Ballon World Cup finals that will take place in Barcelona, had 24K PV. SWRC Super Mario Maker 2 Finals had 15K Peak Viewers, that watched seven participants battle each other for $7K, with the event also raising $53K for various charities. Black Desert Solare Invitational had 6K PV and occupies the last place on this list.
TwitchCon San Diego might have some controversy surrounding it, but it was still able to organize some entertaining events. Streamers had a great time participating in unique and very competitive tournaments, while fans had the pleasure to watch them either from home or live.
