New title from The Witcher 3 developers tops Twitch on release day

Dark fantasy fans enthusiastically welcomed the release of The Blood of Dawnwalker, a new action RPG from the developers behind the acclaimed The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. The title made a strong livestreaming debut and immediately climbed to the top of Twitch’s most-watched games ranking.

The Blood of Dawnwalker officially launched late on September 2, so we used data from September 3, the first full day following its release, for our analysis. According to SteamDB, the game reached 64.4K peak concurrent players on its release day. However, it attracted a much larger audience across livestreaming platforms.

During its first full day on Twitch, The Blood of Dawnwalker generated just over 2 million Hours Watched, while the category averaged 89.4K viewers. It ranked as the most-watched game on Twitch that day by both metrics. Compared with other recent releases, The Blood of Dawnwalker outperformed Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and Forza Horizon 6 by Hours Watched, but fell short of Subnautica 2.

The Blood of Dawnwalker category on Twitch reached 161.6K Peak Viewers on its release day, the fourth-highest result on the platform. The new title trailed World of Warcraft, where The Race to World First: The Venomous Abyss was nearing its conclusion. The new military shooter WARDOGS also recorded a higher viewership peak as it entered the final stage of open testing ahead of its early access launch. 

The Blood of Dawnwalker attracted attention from streamers around the world, but Polish creators were the most active. Poland led in the number of unique channels, even surpassing the United States. This is hardly surprising given the game’s Polish development team and its strong emphasis on Eastern European folklore.

Twitch was the main platform for The Blood of Dawnwalker streams, but across all livestreaming services, the most popular creator on release day was Poland’s Artur “rybsonlol” Gębicz. He streams on Kick and primarily specializes in League of Legends content. Rybsonlol topped the rankings by both Hours Watched and Peak Viewers.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a single-player open-world dark fantasy RPG set in 14th-century Europe. Its protagonist, Coen, remains human during the day but transforms into a vampire at night, gaining different abilities and new ways to complete quests. The game’s main feature is its nonlinear “narrative sandbox”: players have 30 in-game days to save Coen’s family, while their decisions and use of time shape how the story unfolds.

The game was released on September 3, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is the debut title from Polish studio Rebel Wolves, founded by former developers of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, and was published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
