Fortnite’s most recent complete Chapter launched the game back to the top of the live-streaming totem pole. Chapter 4: Season OG was a new start for the game, but one that brought it back to its roots. The season, which began November 3, saw Fortnite revisit some of the original maps and weapons that were around for the height of the game’s popularity in live-streaming.
The finale of the event was a special event titled The Big Bang, featuring a record-breaking Eminem live concert. The event topped off Fortnite’s wave of new popularity with a new Peak Viewers record for the game on Twitch: reaching over 3M concurrent viewers.
Many classic Fortnite streamers benefitted from the Season OG, as older prominent live-streaming figures and Fortnite fans returned to streaming the game on Twitch. None of these streamers had more people excited for their return than Ninja.
Ninja, an ex-professional esports player, discovered his true fame in 2017 while streaming Fortnite. He was the first-ever Twitch streamer to reach 3M Followers on the platform, and although he was one of the biggest faces in live streaming, his popularity has dropped slightly since.
Ninja’s 2023 on Twitch has been successful, although uneventful compared to his peaks in 2018. At the height of his popularity, Ninja was often drawing in tens of thousands of average concurrent viewers every stream, and hitting peaks into the hundreds of thousands. Ninja struggled to replicate the same atmospheric success he experienced in earlier years until Fortnite Season OG dropped.
Ninja’s viewership statistics during the Fortnite Season OG were up across all metrics. Not only was the American streamer gaining viewership on the level of his 2018 popularity, but he was even streaming far more often. Ninja was live for 130 hours during the season, an increase of 140% compared to the previous 30 days. He was evidently enjoying the streams and glad to be playing the game he was rocketed to celebrity status with.
Ninja’s channel statistics show not only healthy viewership statistics but significant channel growth. In November alone, Ninja gained more followers than the rest of 2023 combined. This is generally true for the rest of his statistics too. During Fortnite Season OG, Ninja accumulated 3.94M Hours Watched, more than he amassed during the first 6 months of 2023.
Ninja’s popularity reached its peak as Fortnite’s Season OG came to a close, setting not only record viewership for the category on Twitch but giving Ninja one of his most popular streams ever.
Across the almost 10 hours Ninja was live for the final day of Season OG, he accumulated 632K Hours Watched. This singular stream received more watch time than his channel collected during October of this year. The real jewel in Ninja’s crown is the 579.7K Peak Viewers he reached during the climatic cinematic cutscene for Fortnite OG.
The broadcast was his most popular stream in over 4 years. With the combined power of the hype that Fortnite generated with Season OG and Ninja’s own personal popularity within the Fortnite community, his viewership reached a height that his channel has not seen in years.
The stream is now his second-most-popular Twitch broadcast ever, ranking only behind the Ninja Vegas ‘18 event. His most popular stream was his coverage of his own personal Fortnite event hosted in Las Vegas. The event was hugely popular, not only being Ninja’s most popular stream ever but also still ranking within the top 5 most popular Fortnite esports events of all time.
Ninja’s Fortnite OG farewell stream was his most popular regular broadcast ever. Not backed by a large-scale $50K Fortnite esports event, and not supported by a collaboration with a celebrity name such as PewDiePie, Ninja achieved 579.7K PV through his own streaming dedication and Fortnite’s revolutionary Season OG.
Fortnite’s Season OG is gone, but the effect it had on the live-streaming community is still clear to see. Fortnite has reached its highest peak viewership ever on Twitch, and many streamers, including Ninja, revitalised their viewership by exploring and enjoying the fresh update.
