Having recently left behind her exclusivity contract with Twitch, Pokimane has revealed her next move, and fans are all for it. The online sensation's January 31 post on X (formerly Twitter) revealed an event between streamers from her former permanent employers and YouTube that will also serve as her debut live broadcast on the latter.
In a true end-of-an-era moment, the Canadian-Moroccan streamer ended a decade-long exclusive association with the purple platform. During this time, she made a name for herself as one of the pioneers of the industry, specifically mentioning 'League (of Legends), Fortnite, and Among Us' as the games that earned her the most love.
It has to be pointed out that Pokimane has not quit Twitch; rather, she does not have to stream only with this organization from hereon. This means fans can see their favorite influencer live on streaming services like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, apart from the Amazon-owned site. Those with inclinations towards Kick and Rumble might be disappointed, considering her previous comments about these websites.
The OfflineTV co-founder's first stop will be on the Google-owned platform, where five of its content creators will face off against five names from its biggest rivals in a series of games. The event will be live-streamed from noon PST on the channels of all the participants, the list of which is given below:
They will duke it out in Valorant, Codenames, and LoL, with 100 subs being gifted to each winner. For those wondering, Codenames is a popular card & board, mystery, party game where players 'give their teams clever one-word clues to help them spot their agents in the field.'
Pokimane's Twitch journey briefly recapped
The internet star first appeared on the streaming site in 2013 live broadcasting her playthrough of Riot Games' epic MOBA. She soon found a successful space for herself there, with her regular video uploads and skills at gaming earning her admirers worldwide.
By the beginning of this decade, she had established herself as the female face of the segment on Twitch, and while the COVID-19 pandemic was a hard time for many, she was one of many influencers to benefit from the lockdown era. Most of Pokimane's most successful streams came during this phase, with her live streams of Among Us involving Disguised Toast, Sykkuno, and Valkyrae becoming a daily stressbuster for millions globally.
Such successes only served to increase her stardom across the broader pop culture, with the 27-year-old appearing in the 2021 film Free Guy. She also became the Chief Creative Officer for RTS, a talent management and consulting firm, although her stint with OfflineTV ended in 2023.
Pokimane also had her fair share of controversies on Twitch, although that's unsurprising given the length of her tenure there. However, after over a decade of loyal service, she leaves the place a bonafide superstar at a time when the company isn't exactly in the good books of users and continues to lose its big names to the likes of Kick.
When she made her announcement on Wednesday, the IRL content creator had 9.34M followers on Twitch, the tenth-most ever and the highest among females. Considering her loyal following and penchant for constantly attracting new viewers, it is safe to say there is lots more to come from the industry veteran, starting with her much-anticipated YouTube bow later today.
