Shibuya HAL, or 渋谷ハル on YouTube, recently took to Twitter to announce an upcoming Valorant event featuring other popular Japanese VTubers and live streamers. Independent VTuber Akami Karubi (赤見かるび) and hololive-affiliated La+ Darkness (Laplus ch. ラプラス・ダークネス - holoX -) were teased for the event alongside Kuzuha Channel and industry-leading Japanese streamer fps_shaka. With the combined power of these five creators across YouTube and Twitch, the announcement for the event reached over 150,000 viewers live.
Shibuya HAL first took to Twitter early on July 10 to tease the upcoming ShibuyaHAL x Valorant event. He warned his fans to watch out for the broadcast, and many of his more than 770,000 Twitter followers took notice. When the VTuber did go live for the announcement, his viewership peaked almost immediately, thanks to the awareness generated on Twitter.

Just minutes after the beginning of his broadcast, he reached 43.8K Peak Viewers, setting a new personal record for himself in 2024. Shibuya HAL’s overall YouTube channel record remains 167.2K PV, achieved in 2022, but the announcement broadcast for his event partnered with Riot Games was his most popular broadcast of the year so far.
Supported officially by Riot Games, Shibuya’s Tweets building hype up for the event were retweeted by the Valorant Japan account, exposing the event to an esports-oriented Japanese audience. Japanese viewership represents one of the largest audiences in Asian Valorant esports; with this event being so well advertised, viewership could research impressive peaks.
Although Shibuya set a 2024 viewership record for himself, he was not the most popular creator to broadcast the event announcement. Fps_shaka took a break from grinding Zenless Zone Zero to cover Shibuya’s live reveal of the event. Viewership for his broadcast jumped from under 20K concurrent viewers, to 63.5K Peak Viewers.
Alongside fps_shaka, all the other creators involved with the event were live for the announcement. Kuzuha took a slightly different approach to the stream than others; the VTuber was live playing Valorant with his fellow event participants, rather than directly focusing on the announcement itself. During this broadcast, his viewership reached a peak of 27.5K concurrent viewers.
Both Akami and La+ Darkness co-streamed the event broadcast, covering Shibuya’s broadcast with their added reactions and inputs. For her broadcast, Akami reached 10K Peak Viewers, and La+ Darkness reached 11K PV at the immediate beginning of her stream. Similar to Shibuya, La+ Darkness reached a large immediate audience by using social media to generate excitement for the announcement in advance.
The upcoming ShibuyaHAL x Valorant tournament begins on July 26 and will be covered by Esports Charts; our PRO subscribers will be able to track live-updated viewership statistics for the event. With the combined viewership of Japan’s VTuber, livestreaming, and esports audiences, this event has the potential to reach hundreds of thousands of live viewers, perhaps even outperforming the ongoing Valorant Challengers Japan 2024: Split 2.
