Recently, four major gaming showcases by Ubisoft, Sony, Nintendo, and Disney took place at once. In the new article, Streams Charts will tell you about the major announcements at these events, as well as which conference attracted the most attention from viewers.
Nintendo Direct
The last gaming showcase from Nintendo before the current one took place back in early February, so fans were looking forward to the latest news from the company. The September 13 Nintendo Direct presentation revealed over ten games that will be released in the foreseeable future. The titles to be released on Nintendo Switch until the end of 2022 include It Takes Two, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Factorio, and Bayonetta 3. In turn, Mario Party 1-3, Pokemon Stadium 1-2, 1080 Snowboarding, and Excitebike 64 will replenish the collection of games available through Nintendo Switch Online subscription. In addition, this collection will also feature a remaster of the cult classic shooter Golden Eye in 2023.
January 2023 will also see the release of a new part of the Fire Emblem series, which will be subtitled Engage. The beginning of the year will also feature a worldwide release of the horror FATAL FRAME: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, which has been published exclusively in Japan since 2008. Octopath Traveler 2 and Kirby's Return To Dreamland will be released in February, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be playable in May, and Pikmin 4 will be released before the end of 2023.
In total, the broadcasts of the recent Nintendo Direct generated nearly 2M Hours Watched, over 83% of which was contributed by the YouTube audience. The gaming showcase was streamed on nearly 200 channels, with over 2.1M Peak Viewers and nearly 1.5M Average Viewers.
Featured in the top 3 by both Hours Watched and Peak Audience were Nintendo's official YouTube channels in Japanese, English, and Spanish. At the same time, the Japanese-language broadcasts of the showcase outperformed the English-language ones in each of the viewership indicators. Standing out among the popular independent streamers who covered the event were the Frenchman Ponce, the Spaniards alexelcapo and elxokas, as well as the American Maximilian_Dood.
State of Play September 13, 2022
As part of the Sony State of Play showcase held on September 13, 10 games for PS4, PS5, and PS VR2 were shown, including both new games and already established titles. The event kicked off with the debut trailer for Tekken 8, followed by Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge - Enhanced Edition and Demeo, which will be released in 2023 on PS VR2.
Presented during the event were also the first trailers of Like a Dragon: Ishin! and Pacific Drive, as well as a trailer for the PlayStation-exclusive quest Hogwarts Legacy. In addition, Sony showed a new trailer for Stellar Blade (PS5 exclusive) and the debut trailer for a new samurai action game called Rise of the Ronin, which is scheduled for release not early than 2024. The event ended with an epic gameplay trailer for God of War: Ragnarok, which will be released on November 9th on PS4 and PS5.
State of Play broadcasts generated 647K Hours Watched, with 52% of these being contributed by Twitch viewers. At the same time, the event gathered 776.5K Average Viewers and almost 1.1M Peak Viewers. The most popular broadcast language of State of Play was English, which contributed over 63% of the event's Hours Watched. The top 5 by this indicator also included Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian.
PlayStation and IGN YouTube channels became the leaders of the event by key viewership indicators. Meanwhile, closing the top 3 by Peak Viewers was the PlayStation Twitch channel, while the popular Spanish streamer Rubius closed the top 3 by Hours Watched. It should be noted that another fairly popular Hispanic streamer that covered the gaming showcase was alexelcapo, lirik became the leader among English-speaking independent streamers, and alanzoka turned out to be the #1 content creator of the event’s Portuguese-speaking segment.
Ubisoft Forward 2022
At the Ubisoft Forward 2022 presentation, quite a lot of time was devoted to the 15th anniversary of the Assassin’s Creed series, with four new installments of the game being announced (Mirage and mobile titles Codename Jade, Codename Red, and Codename Hexe) as well as the latest DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. In addition, gameplay trailers for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Skull and Bones were shown at the showcase.
Ubisoft also announced the 4th season of Riders Republic and the console version of Trackmania and also showed the debut trailer for Just Dance 2023. It also became known that Rainbow Six Mobile, The Division Resurgence, and The Division Heartland will enter the closed beta stage this fall.
In total, viewers spent more than 930K hours watching the Ubisoft Forward 2022 broadcasts, with 55% of these coming from Twitch. The event gathered 507.3K Average Viewers and 611.2K Peak Viewers. The most popular broadcast language was English, which accounted for almost 60% of the event's Hours Watched. The top 5 languages that contributed the most also included Spanish, French, Italian, and German.
Ubisoft's YouTube and Twitch channels topped the event by both Peak Viewers and Hours Watched. The IGN channel also entered the top 3 by Peak Viewers, and Rubius closed the top 3 by Hours Watched. Other popular streamers that covered the showcase include English-speaking lirik and forsen, as well as French YouTuber Julien Chièze.
Disney & Marvel Games Showcase 2022
The Disney & Marvel Games Showcase 2022 presentation became part of the D23 Expo 2022 exhibition, which traditionally featured Disney announcements and showed promo videos of upcoming projects. Among the most anticipated games shown during the event were Tron: Identity, Illusion Island, Marvel's Midnight Suns, Marvel Strike Force, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Galactic Edition, Avatar: Reckoning, and Disney Dreamlight Valley - Toy Story.
Disney also unveiled a trailer for the villains of the Mirrorverse game, announced the development of a remaster of Gargoyles, released in 1995, as well as a yet unnamed game about Black Panther and Captain America. It also became known that the authors of Pokémon Go are creating a World of Heroes mobile game that will be similar to the popular Pocket Monster.
In total, Disney & Marvel Games Showcase 2022 broadcasts collected 142.5K Hours Watched and gathered 106.9K Average Viewers and more than 166.6K Peak Viewers. Twitch became the most popular platform for coverage of the showcase, generating more than 57% of its total Hours Watched.
The bulk of the audience of the Disney & Marvel Games Showcase 2022 consisted of English-speaking viewers, and broadcasts in this language generated more than 72% of the event's Hours Watched. Spanish-French-Italian and Russian-language broadcasts were the runners-up by this indicator. The top 3 channels of the event by Peak Viewers included IGN, lirik, and Flow Games, while lirik, IGN, and forsen became leaders by Hours Watched.
Comparison of viewership statistics of game showcases
The most popular of the gaming showcases overviewed was the Nintendo Direct. It outperformed its closest competitor, State of Play, by almost twice by both Peak and Average Viewers. This difference is mostly due to the presence of Japanese viewers on broadcasts of the Nintendo presentation and the absence of those on the streams of the Sony showcase.
Ubisoft Forward 2022 outperformed State of Play by Hours Watched by almost 44% due to being the longest-running showcase reviewed, while lagging behind by Peak and Average Viewers by 79% and 53%, respectively. The least popular gaming showcase was that of Disney & Marvel, which tviewership figures were several times lower than those of Ubisoft Forward.
