Sony recently held another State of Play, showcasing upcoming titles for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2, and dropping some exciting news about the PlayStation 5 Pro. The event drew the attention of hundreds of high-profile streamers, who together hit over 1.57 million Peak Viewers.
The highest viewership of the September 24th presentation came at the very end, when Sucker Punch unveiled Ghost of Yotei, a spiritual successor to their hit game Ghost of Tsushima. Set 300 years after the original, Ghost of Yotei features a new female lead and takes place in a brand-new setting. The game is expected to launch in 2025, but Sucker Punch hasn’t announced a specific release date yet.
In addition to Ghost of Yotei, the State of Play presentation generated considerable excitement with the new gameplay reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This time, the developers showcased an intense battle against a massive dragon. The game is set to release on October 31 for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC.
During the State of Play, Sony dropped a bunch of exciting updates. They announced remasters for Horizon Zero Dawn and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2, along with new DLC for Alan Wake 2, Stellar Blade, and a few other games.
They also released a special video highlighting games that will be getting graphical upgrades on the PlayStation 5 Pro. Some of the big names include Hogwarts Legacy, Final Fantasy VII, Demon’s Souls, Resident Evil Village, Stellar Blade, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, Dragon's Dogma, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. In total, more than 20 projects were confirmed, with Sony hinting that this list is only going to keep growing.
The viewership statistics for the September 2024 State of Play presentation were similar to those of the two previous events this year. The number of unique channels covering the presentation increased to 750. Many popular streamers followed the showcase, including alanzoka, Maximilian_DOOD, xQc, Emiru, Tectone, forsen, Quin69, and others. Notably, zackrawrr's channel achieved the third highest peak viewership, surpassing even the official PlayStation broadcast on Twitch.
The State of Play presentation on September 24 saw a significant increase in audience reach alongside a rise in the number of channels. It achieved the highest peak viewership of the year for English-language broadcasts and recorded substantial growth in Hours Watched for both English and Portuguese streams.
In terms of platform distribution, YouTube experienced a notable rise in its share. Previously, YouTube and Twitch each accounted for roughly 50% of total HW, but in September, YouTube's share increased to 64%.
When it comes to broadcast languages, English remains the dominant choice for State of Play presentations. However, Spanish is gradually losing ground and fell to third place in September as Portuguese viewing hours increased. Overall, the official State of Play broadcasts primarily focus on the English-speaking audience, while reach in other languages relies on the activity of streamers.
